Zithromax What Is It Facts in Questions
How long after finishing a course of 3 day Zithromax should I feel symptoms? I was diagnosed Saturday with sinusitis and bronchitis and given a 3 day Zithromax treatment, which I finished monday. I still have a night-time cough that wakes me up, and mild to moderate, green and yellow, congestion (it's the discoloration that worries me most). Is this residual from the infection, or should I see my doctor for a follow-up?

amigaloca replied: "I would see the doc. You may need a second round of Z. Sometimes one is not enough. Just see doctor to get his opinion. Feel beeter."

What happens if you take zithromax antibiotic with food instead of an empty stomach? Does anyone know if you take zithromax with food does that mean it won't work?

Autumlief replied: "Food may cause the Zithromax to not be as powerful as it would be if you take it with an empty stomach. Take it an hour before meals or 2 hours after a meal."

meangirl replied: "It will still work"

How long should I be on Zithromax for recurrent tonsilitis? I have 2 prescriptions for Zithromax (1 is a refill) to try and get me over this recurrent tonsillitis I have without surgery. The doctor didn't tell me there was a specific time needed, so I'm clueless. I was thinking 10 days, but idk anyone know?

Suresh replied: "zithromax is an antibiotic, commonly given in 3 days dosage or 5 days dosage... once u complete the dosage, doctor would wait for 2-3 weeks time to see if u have gotten over the tonsillitis or gor another episode...... most of the time tosillitis is due to allergic conditions, associated with blocked nose mouth breathing etc.. in that case u are given a course of antibiotic to prevent any infection and then put on antiallergic medications for long period of 1-2 months and reviewed..often this works in preventing further recurrence of tonsillitis... try to keep ur mouth moist... keep sipping 1-2 sip of water every 10-15 min...if u have nose block... treat it as well.... regards suresh"

How long does Zithromax stay in your system? I finished taking Zithromax about 2 days ago for ear infections, which haven't completely healed (it happens to me) and was wondering how long it stays in your system/when it would be safest to drink some alcohol after finishing the prescription.

Deniz replied: "try a week to two weeks just to be safe"

ArmyDoc2008 replied: "The half life of Zithromax is 68 hours. This means that 68 hours after your last dose, half of the drug concentration is still floating around in your bloodstream and other tissues. The reason for this long period of excretion is that a large portion of the medication is taken up by your tissues, and then slowly released back in to your blood. It is finally voided to the outside in your bile after being processed by the liver. To be safe, you should wait at least 7 days to ensure the concentration will be low enough that your liver won't be pulling double duty processing alcohol and antibiotics at the same time."

Michelle S replied: "Ask a pharmacist if you wana be that careful."

Is it safe to breastfeed while taking the antibiotic Zithromax? I have bronchitis and the doctor prescribed Zithromax. He said it was safe to take while breastfeeding b/c it's a drug also prescribed to kids. But the pharmacist as well as info I get from online says the effects of breastfeeding while taking Zithromax are not yet known.

sharon w replied: "My PDR,and Merck Manual recommends that you bottle feed while on this medication. The risk's to both pregnant women, and those breast feeding are not known. Always better to be err on the side of caution. Take care. SW RNP"

Cole Ann replied: "Then this is something you need to decide for yourself if you wish to continue taking it and breastfeeding or giving up one or the other. Getting a second opinion may help with your decision and I also go to webmd.com for a lot of information to help me with my decisions when it comes to some drugs or medical questions. It's all a matter of knowing all the information avaliable, and making a decision. Look into other drugs if needed. I'm sure if that isn't right for you you could find something that is."

jloertscher replied: "the reason it is "unknown" is because a study designed to DIRECTLY measure this won't be done. Imagine the following advertisement: Perfectly healthy breast-feeding mothers wanted to participate in a study designed to see if azithromycin taken by the mother will screw up their perfectly healthy baby. SO.......the only way to find out is compiling data on breastfeeding moms that take it for infections they have. Azithromycin is safe for babies. There is absolutely no reason to suspect that it will be anything but safe when breastfeeding. But technically, it is still unknown."

Crys replied: "Its a Class C which means you weigh the risk the medication carries to the benefit of taking it. You can bottle feed while on it but I honestly wouldn't see the need. They say the effects are not yet known because there have been no real studies to show them anything. Yet there hasn't been anything reported either. Its your call. Take the facts you have and weigh the pros and cons"

How effective is Zithromax (azithromycin) for acne? I'm taking the generic brand of Zithromax: azithromycin 250 mg. I'm currently taking the 5-day pack and will take 1 tablet 3 times a week for 6 more weeks. How effective is it for acne? What are my chances of developing an allergic reaction? What is the worse that can happen? And is there anything else I should know about it? (I researched it but I can't find too much info.) Thanks =)

Me replied: "If I'm not mistaking that is an antibiotic. I know I took it when I had a cold. As far as acne, I'm not sure what it will & will not do for it."

ChrisLL replied: "I took Zithromax for my acne for 11 months. I took it once a day every day. My dermatologist this week took me off of the azithromycin. At times the worst of the symptoms was a VERY upset stomach. This occurred once a month or less. My acne has cleared but I am also taking a drug called Spironolactone, which helps the hormones. I have been taking Spironolactone for a year and six months now. I feel confident saying that these two drugs combined worked great for me. It was worth taking both to clear my skin. However I am very relived to be off of the Zithromax, if no other reason but not having to remember to take the med. I also researched the drug and could not find too much info either. I would talk with your dermatologist about your concerns and if it is not working than be honest. Before I was prescribed the Zithromax, I had an other prescription that made me sick. I could not eat and was very nausea. I talked to my doctor and she admitted that what she had prescribed doesn't normally affect people, so at that point she knew I was sensitive to medicine. The truth will be known in a month or so to see if the acne is gone now that I am off the Zithromax. Also I changed my cleansing and moisturizing routine in the morning and evening. Discussing with my dermatologist what type of products would be good for me. Good luck to you and hope you find what works best for your skin and body."

Taking Zithromax to cure chlamydia and smoked a little marijuana? I took Zithromax yesterday morning to cure some chlamydia. Then late at night i smoked and took a couple hits of marijuana. Now will that have any interference with the curing of the vd at all? Only people who know for sure leave me an answer.

BJC replied: "You're fine. Marijuana has no effect on azithromycin."

kola replied: "That could really cost you. but next time make sure you get like a thousand dollars wort of weed and engorge youself with a 10 gallons of mississipi grain liquor yu are o.k."

CS replied: "Marijuana does not interfere with any antibiotic."

How soon after being treated with the single dose Zithromax for chlamydia can you have sex? My boyfriend & I both got treated w/ the single dose powder form of Zithromax for chlamydia. How soon after being treated can you have sex? I took my medication on a Monday morning and he took his on a Thursday moring. My symptoms started going away & I felt better in about 2 1/2 days and he had no symptoms at all. We had unprotected sex the other day. It had already been 8 days for me since I took the medication but only 5 days for him. So after 5 days of him being on the medication, we had sex. Was 5 days a long enough time frame for the infection to have cleared? I heard that if you take the single does zithromax, which I did, you may be non-infectious after 48 hours? Is this true? Please help! I don't have any other symptoms since we've had sex should I still be retestes to make sure???

booboo replied: "After your quarentine, 40 days."

coquinegra replied: "good grief! clearly someone is having unprotected sex with an infected person or you wouldn't have contracted Chlamydia. take the whole course before thinking of sex...AND have a long discussion about monogamy. AND invest in some condoms. Clearly, unprotected sex is not the way to go for you two."

Jerry J replied: "1-2 weeks. Before that, use a condom to be safe."

Sarah A replied: "i have no idea. just use condoms to keep from getting reinfected on both sides"

What is the correct dosage of Zithromax (azithromycin) for Chlamydia? I got the prescrition from my doctor and iv forgotton what he said to take, anyway they are 250mg zithromax? Please help!

mz. Skinny Beetch replied: "The dose will depend on your infection. The usual dose to treat Chlamydia is two 500 mg tablets taken as a single dose. If you take it in capsule form you may NOT eat 2 hours before/after"

Rhianna_Returns replied: "For uncomplicated Chlamydia it's a single 1g dose of Azithromycin. So if you have 250mg, you take 4 tablets as one single dose. Take the tablets 2 hours after food or on an empty stomach."

If I was on Amoxicillin for 4 days, and had to switch to Zithromax because of allergic reaction? I took Amoxicillin for 4 days, and then switched to Zithromax. Do I have to take my last Zithromax pill if I was already on Amoxicillin for 4 days?

WildRockMan replied: "Always complete the antibiotic course. Failure to do so can breed resistant organisms."

Sarah B replied: "I'd say take all that has been prescribed to you. I had a rash all over my body after I finished using Amoxicillin. Was sucky."

ROY C replied: "yes the amoxicillin will not have worked if you were allergic to it. complete the full course/. i too am allergic to amoxicillin i came out in red itchy spots all over my body its bloody awful. good luck from Nicki Roy's wife"

court replied: "Yes finish the Zithromax! I am allergic to penicillin which is the main ingredient in Amoxicillin . I had to go to the emergency room barefoot because my whole body swelled along with the itchy red blotches. My lips went numb too. Yuck. If your allergic to Amoxicillin chances are you are allergic to penicillin too. So watch that in the future. Hope you get well soon."

krazykatmeow replied: "yes, you have to take it the whole way through or it won't work"

kinndee716 replied: "yes, you should finish the complete course of zithromax."
