Has anyone been on doxepin and tried to "ween" off of it? I have been taking it for about 4 months now, for chronic hives. Some sites say to ween off, others say that you can stop cold turkey. Has anyone had any expieriences with this drug? I will double check with my primary (my allergist saying to go cold turkey doesn't sound right). I'd rather be safe than sorry. Any help will be great. Thanks :-)
Em_Lou02 replied: "NEVER stop cold turkey thats hard on your body. You need to ask your dr if you should get off of it...if yes ween off SLOWLY never rush. My doctor always weens me on and off meds he said its hard on your whole body definetly your digestive system. Ex Plan if you take 2 pills a day(1 in the morning 1 @ night) a good plan might be for the 1ST 4 DAYS stop taking the night meds (forever) the NEXT 4DAYS take 1/2 a pill in the morning (if its a pill break in 1/2 if a capsle pull apart empty out 1/2 the med and put back together) After that your you can stop ok Id go to a doctor though maybe they will want to put you on something else or something you can take as needed. Good Luck!"
Is Doxepin an opiate? Is Doxepin an opiate? If not what is it? Will it get someone high? And will it show on a drug test? Found some pills in boyfriends room which makes me question about him..
hotmama replied: "No it is not an opiate. It will not get anyone high.
It's used for depression,anxiety... mostly used for GI (stomach) issues though."
Fibromyalgia & Doxepin? Does this rx help?? my side effects? I have Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Immune Disorder, I have been on Prozac/Wellbutrin. New Doc started me on Doxepin 25mg, stating only the Tricyclic Anti-Depr work well with Fibro....My problem, it is now I am on my 17th day of the added Doxepin, and I feel like I HAVE BEEN RUN OVER BY A TRUCK,,
I am so tired, I hurt all over (this new doc, is anti-pain meds)I used to have Fentanyl Patch, NO MORE...doc wont write scrip.
It very literally hurts to hold my head up, I'm very easily out of breath now,so tired, weak, loss appetite, severe dry mouth, Has anyone else taken this Doxepin for Fibro and had these side effects in the first months of adjusting to the drug?
HELP?

Violet Pearl replied: "This might be of interest to you:"
TechnoMom replied: "How quickly did you go off the Fentanyl? Even if the doctor is anti pain meds, it's irresponsible for him or your previous doctor to have you go off Fentanyl without ramping down gently.
The MedLine site below lists common side effects of Doxepin as
* upset stomach
* drowsiness
* weakness or tiredness
* excitement or anxiety
* insomnia
* nightmares
* dry mouth
* skin more sensitive to sunlight than usual
* changes in appetite or weight
It says to tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
* constipation
* difficulty urinating
* frequent urination
* blurred vision
* changes in sex drive or ability
* excessive sweating
So it sounds to me as if you're experiencing a combination of withdrawal, side effects, and a flare.
I'm not sure why you would change from an understanding doctor who provides Fentanyl patches to one who doesn't believe in pain medications (which usually means the doctor doesn't "believe in" fibromyalgia, and isn't going to give you decent treatment, period). Is it possible for you to go back to the old doctor, or to move on to a new one?
Antidepressants absolutely are NOT the only effective treatment for FMS, and in fact, Cymbalta, which is being found to be useful in some patients, isn't a tricyclic at all.
Pain medications are effective in managing FMS. It's perfectly reasonable that you should have them.
Good luck!
Edited to add:
I tried to reply to your email, but Yahoo! says your email address hasn't been confirmed. I think the system is confused, but anyway . . .
So are you seeing a general doctor now? You should at least be seeing a rheumatologist and an orthopedic doc! And get another pain doc referral, even if you have to drive a piece. It's just once a month, right?
Hang in there, hon. FMS is hard on anybody, but with all those other diagnoses and in a rural area, you've got a tough row to hoe. I'll be praying for you.
One of the sites I noted is my blog/podcast. I should have another episode out soon. I try to post helpful, upbeat things. Give it a listen if you like :-)

Illegal drug MDMA and its effects when taken with......? A female friend of mine is considering trying the drug MDMA (ecstasy) for the first time. She is 27 and takes a short list of prescription drugs on a daily basis. She wants to know if she'll have a sever reaction to the drug when it combines with the other chemicals in her system. **yes, we know that there is some really bad stuff mixed in with XTC pills but we're fairly confident that what we can acquire is a more "pure" form of MDMA.
Ortho cyclen
Zyrtec (10 mg/daily)
Singulair (no idea...daily)
Zantac (75 mg/daily)
Doxepin (.25)
*NOTE* To all those out there that just want to write warnings, just because its an illegal drug, thanks but that is not the answer we are looking for. We know the "dangers" of XTC but we're looking to see if there is a greater risk because of what she is already on. So, please don't waist your time, and ours with responses like "just don't do it," or anything along those lines. We're looking for serious answers only.
Thanks!

What effects could a person expect to experience while taking the following prescription drugs? Wellbutrin Sr 150 mg
Lorazepam 0.5 mg
and Doxepin 50 mg? He (my boyfriend) is also suppose to be taking Risperdal 4 mg but he doesn't take it because of the Zombie like side effects he says he gets. Please any help from a doctor if possible would be helpfull to me. He has mood swings and paranoid thinking almost daily.
WiserAngel replied: "Wellbutrin and Lorazepam alone should work. The dosage they have him on Lorazepam is quite low though. If he is suffering from anxiety, he may need 1 mg or 2 mg to get that under control. I'm unsure why they have added the Doxepin. It would definitely help to know his entire diagnosis from the DSM IV-R first. Sometimes it takes a really good doctor and a lot of trying out of drugs to find the right combination."
Violet Pearl replied: "look them up here
Those side effects are not uncommon."
DNA G replied: "Risperdal is an anti-psychotic. If he isn't going to take his meds, then he needs to go see his psychiatrist and get on something else. His mood swings and paranoid behaviour is mostly likely because he's not taking his anti-psychotic med."
corazon replied: "lorazepam is to help him sleep
doxepin and wellbutrin are antidepressant agents
risperdal is an antipsychotic agent"
CURL1 replied: "well; im on wellbutrin 2months now feel better other meds never had if i wereyou i get my butt and tell doc. dont mess with these kinds of meds. very dangerous"
Deborah B replied: "I'm not sure about those other drugs with Wellbutrin, but I took Wellbutrin and Keppra, which is a mood stabilizer, after the birth of my baby. What happened was I didn't want to eat. I ate 2 meals in 2 months. I lost 65 pounds in two months. Now that I don't take them anymore and look back, that was completely unacceptable of course. The point is, taking drugs in combination with other drugs is serious and the doctor needs to stay informed of his progress. Sorry I can't be of more help other than to say be very careful."
Can this drug kill you? I take this medicine call doxepin. Its for my eczema while i sleep. It is supposed to knock me out while im sleeping so i dont scratch. It makes me super tired i have slept 17 hours b4. My dr said it used to be an antidepressant. I was just wondering if u overdosed if it would kill you
Michelle C replied: "Yes it could kill you."
jld replied: "You can die of an overdose of almost anything."
gangstaaa <33 replied: "Almost anything in EXCESS can kill you.

Tricyclic Antidepressant + Atropine? What are the side effects on eyes? An optometrist put the dilating drops called Atropine in my eyes when I was taking Doxepin (a tricyclic antidepressant). I am on week 10 of long term dilation of the eyes (which is getting better, but is not 100%). This long term of a dliation is freaking me out.
Any consoling words of wisdom?
In theory, if I am still experiencing problems, does that mean the drug is still in my blood/body? Can I flush the drug out quicker?
whiskey_tears replied: "Side effects associated with the use of atropine are unsteadiness, hallucinations, unusual ... EFFECT IN EYE TO PRODUCE DILATATION...TO RELIEVE PYLOROSPASM"
Jennifer replied: "Atropine has been used long term in a few different conditions. 1) to help treat amblyopia in children by 'fuzzing' out the 'good' eye to make the weaker eye work a little harder, 2) to help prevent synechiae or adhesions in the pupil and iris sphincter area that tend to occur with long-term eye inflammation (uveitis, iritis).
The atropine is a topical drop that is used to dilate the eyes and there are no known contraindications or interactions with other medications at this time.
Because it is a topical drop, the likelihood of it getting into your systemic blood circulation is much lower than if you took a pill or got a shot of medication. Atropine will wear off, but there isn't a way to 'flush' it out any quicker.
There have been instances where patients are on atropine for longer than your 10 week course...kids with amblyopia who won't keep their patch on or wear glasses (this is called atropine penalization)...I have seen 3-4 months of atropine being used in these young children until they are old enough to keep their glasses and patches on.
I have also seen some long-term use of atropine in uveitis patients, 3-6 months depending on the severity of the synechiae that need to be broken, and for prevention of further synechiae.
I do not believe that your doxepin will have any effect on your atropine, but a real good person to call would be your pharmacist for any possible drug interactions and effects. If they find something they are concerned about...then go to your family doctor and have him/her talk with your eye doctor to see if there is another combination, or safer combination of medication to use while you need the atropine drops.
You'll find once your course of atropine is over, your pupils will go back to normal...you will be ok :) but this long term...is not uncommon...and you shouldn't have any ill effects from it at all :)"
hasafer replied: "I had a case with interaction between the same drugs , since when did you stop doxepin ?"
