NMFlamingo replied: "If you've been on Cipro for 7 days and your symptoms haven't improved, I would definitely contact the doctor and report this."

Fran J replied: "you should be feeling alot of releive by now. sounds like this meds. isnt doing its job or you have something else wrong instead. call dr."

shane replied: "just consult a doctor..."

ywroseoftx replied: "It depends on how bad the UTI is, but you could still have symptoms. Get some AZO (at walmart) and drink lots of water, water with lemon juice, cranberry juice, or tea. It should take away the pain and burning feelings. If you are not better by the 10th day go back to the doctor, cause you might be taking the wrong antibiotic for the UTI. Lots of times they give sulphur drugs for UTI or bladder infection."

puncturelumbar replied: "Not all bacteria are sensitive to Cipro. You should check with the physician who provided the Cipro and see if the urine culture (if it was done) shows that the bacteria is sensitive to Cipro. If not, another antibiotic should be tried."

Pinky replied: "Check back with your doctor. I had these same symptoms and took cipro and it didn't help. Turned out I had a kidney stone, not a UTI. You should be feeling better by day 7. See your doc. Good luck."

I have a UTI and have started on Cipro. How long does this medication take to kick in? I now have 4 pills in me and really don't feel any better.

Madison replied: "It should take about a week. Though, if you had a very bad UTI before you started taking the cipro, it could take longer to kick in. As well, if your kidneys start to hurt (back problems, sore lower back) then you should call you doctor straight away as this could have turned into something more serious. Good luck!"

Del-icious replied: "It depends, Cipro can start working within a couple of hours. It depends on the severity of the infection. However, take ALL of the pills as perscribed. Remember . . . -Drink more water. -Urinate after sex. -(Trying not to be graphic) Careful when cleansing yourself after using the bathroom. Ladies might go from back to front which brings bacteria to your unmentionables."

I have a bladder infection or a UTI, not sure. I took Cipro for it, should it help? I think I have a bladder infection, my neighbor just had a UTI, and her doc gave her an antibiotic called CIPRO, and I took one today. It made me really drowsy and I slept for about two hours today. Should I be taking this antibiotic? Will it help my situation. I have an appointment with my doc on friday, but I was hoping I would be over it by then. I don't drink soda, ever. I drink tons of water every day, and I have been doing the cranberry juice thing for a couple of days now.

globar replied: "Drink lots of cranberry juice, you should do this on a regular basis anyway it helps prevent bladder infections."

***Mel*** replied: "yea, I hope it helps!!!"

mike P replied: "i personally would just go to a walk in clinic and get the antibotics asap because if the infection gets worst it can go to your kidneys and then it is alot harder to treat. i also would not be taking someones else's drugs... and every antibotic targets different things so i wouldn't take antibotics that were not given to you... you just need to go to the hosipital and get a prescription for some antibotics and just take them as you are told and it will go away in less than a week..."

Ashley S replied: "You shouldn't be taking other people's perscriptions as you may have a different reaction to it...BUT I do know just how urgent you feel you need relief with an UTI and bladder infection. Seriously, drink LOTS of water at one time. Like try having about 4 bottles in an hour, and you should start to feel relief. Also, drink lots and lots of cranberry juice. When you go to your doctor, as for some extra sterilized cups to pee in so next time you get an infection, you can get that pee tested before your appointment in case it's too late. Also, for something that can't wait like that, go to a walk-in clinic for quicker medical relief."

Alyssa replied: "drink cranberry juice. tastes like battery acid, but its got a unique chemical in it that flushes bacteria out of the lining of your bladder."

can you drink alcohol while on cipro for UTI? i'm on cipro for a urinary tract infection. can i have alcohol?

Mommy several times over replied: "Alcohol is a no-no during a UTI. You should be drinking water. Party later - take care of yourself now!!"

Has anyone ever had this drug for UTI? CIPRO? I just got back from the doctor and she said I have a urinary tract infection (UTI). She prescribed me to take Cipro. I have never taken this antiboitic before. In fact, I NEVER take any antibiotics, I always look for natural remedies. But this isn't clearing up with any of the herbs I've been taking. I'm scared to take this drug, as it seems to have a lot of side-effects, and it must be taken for 10 days. New Years is just a day away and I'm not sure if I wil even be able to consume alcohol while taking this prescription. I also hear that taking this antibiotic (which is very strong) will harm my bodies immune system and I certainly do not want to do that at the start of the winter. Please help.

AJ replied: "I have taken Cipro for a UTI before and did not have any problems on it, nor did I catch any colds or anything afterwards. Remember, most side effects are listed as a precaution and it does not mean they will occur with you; I suffered no ill side effects, and all the vitamin C I was ingesting through juice used to help combat the pain of a UTI meant I stayed nice and healthy."

Beako replied: "I take Cipro every time I have a UTI with no ill effects. I can't take the more usually prescribed Macrobid because I'm sensitive to it. I've never had problems mixing this with alcohol, and I've never gotten another illness after taking it. Do remember to take the full course of the antibiotic. You might be particularly tempted to stop taking it once you start feeling better. Don't. Take the full 10 days, and stay well. Happy New Year!"

Brian replied: "Cipro is a broad spectrum antibiotic that's often prescribed for things like a UTI. If you want the infection gone then you need to take the Cipro that's really all there is to it. As far as drinking you really should never mix alcohol and drugs. Now lets talk about something even more important what will happen if you don't take the Cipro well that simple easy to cure UTI becomes pyelonephritis or even worse develops into urosepsis trust me you don't want either of those so just take the Cipro your immune response will be fine."

Chad replied: "My mom had a UTI recently, and took cipro with no side effects. It cured her in less than a week."

can I use cipro antibiotic for a uti infection? cipro is the only antibiotic i have on hand and the burning and urinating is driving me nuts!

Elle replied: "Thats usually what they prescribe at a hospital or a docs office for one"

Ty B replied: "Yes, Cipro is used for urinary infections. If you have it on hand, however, that likely means you didn't take it all when it was prescribed. Taking only a partial course of any antibiotic can cause a resistant strain of bacteria. Try drinking lots and lots of cranberry juice. It will acidify the urine and make it a hostile environment for the bacteria. It can also clear up many UTI's in just a day or two. Good luck..."

hecla 1 replied: "then drink plenty of water, get something like Vagasil for the itching, do not use an antibiotic that was not prescribed for the problem, it could make it more difficult to get rid of."

UTI and taking cipro. Should i take probiotics? Will taking probiotics such as acidophilus help prevent or reduce common side effects with Cipro? I was prescribed 250 mg for 7 days for a veryyy mild uti. Wouldn't 3 days be enough? i just took the first pill 2 hours ago and started feeling nauseated for a few minutes. i've taken cipro before and it's never happened. how can i avoid this with the next pill?

Paigeybear replied: "They shouldn't. I take probiotics every day and have had to take antibiotics for UTIs a lot, so yeah. And take the antibiotics for the whole seven days. Even though it may feel like the infection is gone after a few days, it probably won't be completely gone. Well, as much as antibiotics get rid of UTIs. EDIT-- About the nausea: eat something before you take the pills next time. Even if it's just a cracker."

Jesusfreak replied: "I don't think it will interfer since I took probiotics with antibiotics and none of my Dr's told me that it would interfer. Continue taking the antibiotics for the full 7 days because the Dr. prescribed it. Some patients stop taking the meds when they feel better and end up not clearing up the infection causing another trip to the Dr's office. Since you got the entire script why risk not getting it cleared up? If 3 days were enough you would have only gotten three days worth of Cipro. I also hope that he did a culture. No matter how mild the UTI is the bacteria can multiply in a very short time. Maybe you didn't have full blown symptoms yet but it's still in need of finishing the antibiotics."

jaymee replied: "go to web md or drugs.com they say you are taking a very strong anti bacterial for severe infection. Do not drink milk or eat dairy while taking this drug it will be less affective and always finish all your antibiotics or anti virals. Even though your symptoms are better the bug is still there for a few days."

lolly replied: "ALWAYS follow the directions you were given by your doctor when it comes to antibiotics. If you only take it 3 days, it may be enough to get rid of the visible symptoms, but that doesn't mean it is enough to completely get rid of the infection. SO if you take them for 3 days it may make it ok for a few days, but then the infection may return. So just take them for 7 days as you are supposed to. And as for the probiotics, most doctors and pharmacists recommend taking them when you take antibiotics. Every time I have ever gotten antibiotics the pharmacist always tries to convince me to buy probiotics, it will especially help to sto you from getting a yeast infection from the antibiotics."

I have a uti and am taking cipro? I no longer have the burning with urination, but continue to feel like I have to pee all of the time. Will this go away after a few days of treatment or do I need to go back to the doctor? I am miserable!! which is better to stop the sensation that you have to "go" all of the time? UTA or pyridium?

susieQcleaner replied: "Cipro is good, but it will take 24-48 hrs before the other symptoms clear.....you'll be fine."

sofina_83 replied: "I found that the best medicine for a uti is called "Macrobid"....it stops all of the symptoms within an hour or 2. It is a perscribed medication so you are gonna have to ask your doctor to write you that script or call it in to a pharmacy for you hunnie. I swear by that medicine! I love it and i highly suggest it to you or to anyone else that is having this problem right now. Good luck....hope you feel better."

sondra replied: "give the meds time to do what they are supposed to before going back to doctor. most anti-biotics take a few days work where you will notice a difference. Hope you feel better real soon!"

Crystal replied: "i know what you mean I'm taking the same thing right now and yes it will go away it was driving me crazy too~~"

? replied: "let the medicine works its course. Your bodies continuing need to urinate is its way of getting rid of the infection. It should subside after about day 4 of meds. If it continues after you have completed the antibiotics then contact your doctor. No need to get too worked up about it just yet"

pedidoc43 replied: "Depending on how long you have had your urinary tract infection will depend on how long your urinary symptoms will persist. Cipro should have killed the bacteria (have your Dr. check the "sensitivities" of the bacteria that is causing the infection) but sometimes the bladder irritation can last for a time longer. There is a prescription medication called "Pyridium" that can help with the symptoms by "numbing the bladder". You can his/her office to see if he will prescribed some. Good luck."

Can I take Cipro (UTI Anti-Biotics) with Cystex (UTI Pain Relief)? I just took Cipro (For UTI) and what I want to know is can I also take Cystex (UTI Pain Relief) at the same time? The pharmacist said I could, but I looked on the booklet that came with my medication and it stated I should take Cipro 2 hours before or 6 hours after before taking any medication containing magnesium, aluminum, and etc. On Cystex box, the inactive ingredients contain magnesium stearate. I was wonder if that's the same thing. If so, then probably I can't take Cystex with Cipro. Does anybody know? Thanks in advance.

fdslsg replied: "if the pharmacist says it's okay, then it probably is. it sounds like those medicines were made to be taken together, anyway! if you are worried, you can call a 24-hour pharmacy and ask the pharmacist over the phone."
