How much do most women gain from the Depo Provera shot? I am wondering as a 21 year old female, how much weight I can expect to gain?

ceinglehart replied: "I gained about 20 pounds and started the shot at age 17."

XXXnannaXXX replied: "Im not sure if age affects this but Im 15 and have been on depo provera for 4 months. I haven't gained a pound. But then again I knew I was going to gain weight so I started working out and eating healthier."

Too much dosage taken for provera? Start date is not proper? I have taken 50mg of clomid for last 3 months. Taking on the 2nd day on my menses for 5 days each month. But, my menses becomes irregular. So, the doctor is going to increase the clomid dosage to 100mg. But, before that, I have to take 10mg Provera. He wants me to take Provera twice a day for 2 weeks. Too much dosage? (because i saw others' only take 5-10mg a day and for 5 days normally) And I started taking Provera just 2 days after my menses stoped. I am wondering the next menses can be induced just after the previous menses? Any advice is appreciated.

GIRLY replied: "Call your dr havent ever heard of get a period and then taking provera to get another!"

Depo Provera shot too much bleeding! please help!? I have getting the depo shots for a year now and suddenly i'm bleeding all the time. This last time i got it in my side for the second time in a row i use to get in my arm. I'm having a heavy period almost every week and i'm having crazy mood swings and chocolate craving like mad. I can't take this emotional crap and bleeding what's wrong?

me replied: "One of my friends went on Depo and got her period for six months straight. Six whole months of bleeding. She was bleeding lightly, but it was enough that she had to wear a pad every day for half a year. Needless to say she never got the shot done again. It really screwed her up."

TraceyDonatello replied: "call ur gyno asap. Get off that crap."

Jessec replied: "My wife had the same problem and and we had the shots stopped . I was ticked because she has bad reactions to these kind of things and they never mentioned the list of side effects or how long they could last . She bled for a year. They said it had to wear out of your system."

Likittyslit replied: "i did that once to get my periods to lighten, i ended up bleeding for six months after the first shot...i never went back for more"

<3 born to fly replied: "depo is a bad call...i got one shot and gained 20 pounds in 2 months...i was also wicked moody and it was horrible...call your doc asap"

CrazyB replied: "I was on the depo shot for four years. I only bled a little right before my next shot was due. Then the last time I got the shot I bled for an entire month, I switched birth control after that. I'm not sure why it happens, but it does sometimes and when the doctor couldnt explain it to me, I got off it quick. I would suggest that you consider a different birth control."

I found out that I was pregnant before taking provera but it was too soon to test a positive test? I went to the doctor about my period because it had not come on since my tubal pregnancy in February. They did a pregnancy test (both urine and blood) but it was negative, and they did an ultrasound but it was normal, no pregnancy. So my obgyn started me on a 5 day cycle of provera with hopes that it start my cycle. Well 3 weeks later, still not period so I went back to the doctor to find out I'm 4 week pregnant. Will my baby be okay?

♥Susan♥R♥ replied: "It's good that you have been under supervision by your OB GYN and other doctors. Ask them that question, here on Yahoo Answers we try to offer help but we're not doctors. Good luck Hun."

hoping for miracles replied: "I actually had the same happen with my 3 year old son. I was told that it would not hurt the fetus growing, and it did not."

How much weight can I expect to lose once I stop taking Depo Provera? Experiences with Paraguard: Copper IUD? I started taking Depo Provera in June of 1998 when I weighed a mere 115 lbs. It is now April 2007; I now weigh 190 lbs. and I am finally considering getting off of the Depo for good. I did stop taking the Depo in August 2005 for about a year and switched to Ortho Tri Cyclen due to the drastic weight gain. However, my fears came true when I became pregnant. However, I switched back to Depo for reliability. I am now sick and tired of the weight in my mid section and have decided to go with Paraguard, a copper IUD for reliabilty and hormone-free protection. My question is, has anyone had experiences with weight loss after Depo Provera? When I did get off, I lost 20lbs in 2 months with diet and exercise only to gain it back once on Depo. Also, any experiences with the Paraguard copper IUD?

DeucesMom replied: "I was on depo for about 4 years....and my weight fluctuated alot while on it..the first year My weight stayed the same..and then the 2nd year I dropped 10 pounds then the 3rd year gained the 10 pounds back with an extra 5 pounds tacked on..and year 4 I wasnt able to lose any of it but I also wasnt gaining anything either...I came off of the depo a year ago..and just the past 2 months I was able to drop 8 pounds. everyone is different but I hope you are able to lose the weight I know I was miserable when I gained the pounds from the depo..DEPO SUCKS!"

How much weight did you gain on Depo Provera? I gained 10 in 9 months...

DaIsY~DuKes replied: "That was me - I gained 10 lbs in about a year...that was one of the side effects. I'm on Nuvaring now and I've only gained maybe 5. When I got off Depo Provera, I lost the 10 lbs pretty quick."

Nicole B replied: "I gained about 15lbs in 6 months =( But lost it all when i changed to the pill"

*manuels wifey* replied: "gee i gained like 20 lbs in 6 months! i went from a healthy 134 to over weight 160 then gained 5lbs on my own so now im paying for it and trying to cut down back to at least 140"

rchupungco replied: "OHHH MY GOD. I was cheating with this mom right and when I got her pregnant. she told her husband It was his and now I got her pregnant again. Her husband does know its all mine."

I don't have insurance, and I was wondering how much does Provera cost? I'm not ovulating regularly, but I don't want to go to the doctor to get a script if it is too expensive. ttc for 5 months so far and I have only ovulated twice :(

mominohio replied: "Provera will not help you ovulate, it is to bring on your period. It was about $20 when i use to have to take it but I really don't know what they are charging now. You can call your local pharmacies and ask them and they will quote you the price without insurance. Clomid is what is the first step towards meds for ovulation and that can start to get expensive."

Barb P replied: "It might be different where you live but in Ca., the out-of-pocket cost is about $45 for 30 tabs."

Hilary B replied: "Provera induces your period, not ovulation. If you need to ovulate, you should ask your doctor about Clomid instead."

mrs.mama21 replied: "Since you've already got your answer, I'll just tell you that you NEED to make sure you will have insurance BEFORE you get pregnant. Some companines consider pregnancy a "pre-existing condition" and you'll be out of luck."

bob s replied: "1st talk to a doctor and find out what drug may help you and is safe for you if the script is too expensive you can do what I and and buy online at the site below, but before you can buy anything you need to be sure what you should take"

jenniferrazavi replied: "Provera isn't going to help with the ovulation, it will bring on a period for you though which you will need before taking any drug to make you ovulate. So you are actually looking at 2 presriptions at least. (Per month). I am in Canada, I just filled a prescription for 10 days Provera for $1.10 plus $9.00 for the filling fee. :)"

kel06 replied: "I had to take provera last month to start my cycle...Provera induces your period, but does not induce ovulation. you will have to be given another type of medicine to induce ovulation. Provera just sheds the lining. I'm not sure how much the cost is. I have insurance and it was $10.00. I am now on Metformin to help with ovulation. You should really consider going to the Dr. if you're not ovulating and TTC. I was refered to a fertility specialist and he is doing wonders! I lost my baby Feb.14,07 and this new MD that i went to one time has found the problem that may have contributed to my MC. Best of luck to ya."

How much does depo-provera cost? its a birth control shot given once every 3 months it doesnt say on their website

impossiblemama replied: "it depends on your insurance. does it cover the cost? and if so, how much does it cover?"

Alabama Girl replied: ""Nationwide, the cost for an exam, if needed, ranges from $35 to $125. Further visits cost between $20 and $40. Each injection costs between $30 and $75. The total cost for each year of use ranges from $235 to $585. Costs vary from community to community, based on regional and local expenses. Contact your nearest Planned Parenthood health center 1-800-230-PLAN for information about costs in your area. Medicaid may cover these costs. Private health insurance coverage for birth control varies. Family planning clinics usually charge less than private health care providers.""

Terri replied: "Run away from the depo shot! I'm serious. That shot is pure hell on you. I was on it for four years and had severe mood swings, massive weight gain, and spotting like crazy. After five years you need to have a bone density check to make sure the shot didn't really mess with your bone health. Check out the reviews of the depo shot here:"

jlb replied: "It's free from your local family planning clinic or gp.(in England)"
