She has throat tension and signs of panic attacks too.

kezmuz replied: "I think that your mum should talk to her doctor about this. What caused her hypothyroidism? And I would think she would need to be monitored for her TSH levels for the rest of her life. Her panic attacks could be caused by low levels of TSH. Best she discuss this with her gp. Cheers."

e m replied: "It is possible that she is now suffering from a hyperthyroid. She needs to see a doctor and have her TSH levels checked. If this is not possible, let her call her doctor and explain her symptoms. He might have her cut down on the number of tablets she has per week. I, personally, was taking 1 tablet daily 7 times a week. When my TSH levels went down to 1.5, my doctor had me taking 1 tablet daily for 6 days. I, too, was having panic attacks and hot flashes. Keep in mind that everyone reacts to the medicine differently. Some people are okay at higher levels of TSH, while some people feel better at lower doses."

Lisa A replied: "If you do not have rock steady hormone levels, or you are not symptom free, then you need blood tests at least every 6 weeks. You have iatrogenic hyperthyroidism. Shame on your doctor. Get back in there for more tests, and have your dosage adjusted. The tests that you need are free T3 and free T4."

Margaret replied: "Anyone who is taking thyroid hormone needs to have their TSH level tested periodically to make sure the dosage is still correct. This is standard medical practice. I have been taking thyroxine for 11 years, and my doctor checks it once a year. Your mother should not stop taking her tablets before the test. Your mother's symptoms may or may not be related to her thyroid dosage. She should mention these symptoms to her doctor. Too much thyroid can cause anxiety, but she might also have a psychological problem that needs to be treated."
