why would my doctor prescribe me diclofenac? for sharp pains in my head, muscle spasms, dizziness, fatigue and nausea. those drugs are a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug why would it be used for my symptoms

Mark T replied: "It is also used for the treatment of tension headaches and migrain etc. It has more than one common use Mark"

Loving_Heart replied: "As what you have stated above, you are suffering from Cervical Spondylitis, it's a very good prescription. How ever it should be used on full stomach, possibly with an antacid so that you cannot get NSAID induced peptic ulcer. It is not an anti-anxioltyic or anti depressant. This is the simple explanation, at my end."

Can I take Ibuprofen as needed if I'm also on a regular dose of diclofenac sodium? Dr. prescribed Diclofenac Sodium (50 mg) twice a day to replace my Ibuprofen (800 mg), but sometimes I think I still need an extra pain relief. They both are anti inflammitory, but Diclofenac is not an NSAID, so I'm wondering if I can take an occasional ibuprofen if needed. I do sometimes take tylenol, but it doesn't help.

gillianprowe replied: "Diclofenac (marketed as Flector patch, Voltaren, Voltarol, Diclon, Dicloflex Difen, Difene, Cataflam, Pennsaid, Panamor, Rhumalgan, Modifenac, Abitren, Olfen, Voveran, Arthrotec, Dedolor, Deflamat and Zolterol, with various drug dose combinations) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) taken to reduce inflammation and as an analgesic reducing pain in conditions such as arthritis or acute injury. To my knowledge it is a NSAID, as in Non- Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug. However, you may need the 'time release' capsules rather than the normal capsules/pills. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and take 75mgs of time release everyday and I can boost it up to two capsules when needed. I would not suggest taking any Ibuprofen: Ibuprofen (INN) (IPA: /ˌaɪbjuːˈpɹəʊfɛn/) (from the now outdated nomenclature iso-butyl-propanoic-phenolic acid) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) originally marketed as Brufen, and since then under various other trademarks, as that is also another NSAID! You do not state what the problem is, so I cannot suggest any other drug. Best of Luck"

i suspect i got gout, blood test out in 2 weeks, doctor prescribe "Diclofenac Sod' to me. what is it? my right wrist has been swollen for the past 2 weeks. it is red and swollen and it hurts when i tried to rub it. the veins are like very vislble and pain too when i just rub it. i am worried it is urine acid but the doctor say it might not, thus gotta wait 2 weeks for the blood test. but now my right hand is facing the big problem of no strength, i cannot carry things as the wrist will feel the pain. help anyone? the doctor mentioned that i can choose to take the pills whenever i feel the pain. i have neber touch it cos i am afraid of the side effects.

tinaw2006 replied: "It is for inflammation. Look at this: P.S. It is URIC Acid, not urine acid. Make sure you follow your doc's instructions on changing your diet if he finds it is gout."

mnvikes replied: "uric acid typically affects your big toe (gout) not your wrist first. just follow your doctor's instructions"

xanthones43 replied: "Gout and pseudo gout are types of arthritis, caused by the formation of insoluable crystals in the synovial fluid of joints. Modifying of diet, in which the intake of certain types of animal protein is reduced in order to decrease the production of uric acid, can lower the risk of gout. Additionally, some medications such as hydrochlorathiazide (a water pill) can also increase the blood levels of uric acid and prcipitate gout attacks. Insoluable uric acid crystals form in joints when blood levels of the substance reach excessively high levels. Inflammation, with its redness, swelling and pain, is often severe. Daily consumption of Mangosteen can reduce recurrent attacks. Mangosteen has anti-inflammatory effects, anti-oxident effects, acid-lowering effects, and NO major side effects. drugs are dangerous and foods, as supplements, are not. "

Rene B replied: "Diclofenac sodium is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug or NSAID. These are usually used to treat pain due to arthritis and the like. One company markets it as Voltaren. Just wondering why it takes so long for the blood results to come out. Simple uric acid testing takes about 45 minutes only."

Dorothy and Toto replied: "Sorry this is so long, but you need to know-- Lymphatic Health Mainstream medicine often ignores the LYMPHATIC SYSTEM, but its vitality is CRUCIAL to the health of the immune system. Your lymphatic system can be compared to a freeway. When congested, nothing moves. The same thing can happen in your body. Your lymphatic system affects every organ and cell in your body. When your lymphatic system's drainage becomes blocked, you cannot eliminate toxic material. When the lymph fails to function properly, it becomes sluggish or even stagnant. The clear lymph fluid becomes cloudy and thick, changing from a condition like water to milk to yogurt to cottage cheese. Thickened, gel-like stagnant lymph overloaded with toxic waste is the ideal environment for the onset of numerous illnesses, including CANCER. Your lymphatic system includes a vast network of capillaries that transport the lymph - a series of nodes throughout the body (primarily in the neck, groin, and armpits) that collect the lymph and 3 organs; the tonsils, spleen, and thymus gland, which produce white blood cells (called lymphocytes). Lymphocytes are absolutely vital to the immune system. The space between cells occupies about 18% of the body. Fluid containing plasma proteins, foreign particles, and bacteria that accumulate in these spaces between cells, is called lymph. The primary purpose of the lymph system is to collect the lymph and to return its contents to the bloodstream. More specifically, the lymph system collects waste products and cellular debris from the tissues to eliminate toxins from the body. The lymph flows upward through the body to the chest (at the rate of 3 quarts per 24 hours) where it drains into the bloodstream through two large ducts. Lymph also flows down from the head and neck into these drainage sites. Unlike the blood supply, the lymphatic system does not have a pump (the heart} to move it along. Rather, its movement depends on such factors as muscle contraction or manual manipulation (why inactivity can lead to increased illness). The lymph circulation is also a one-way circulation - it only returns fluid to the bloodstream. The lymph system becomes particularly active during times of illness (such as the flu), when the nodes (particularly at the neck) visibly swell with collected waste products. When the collecting terminals become blocked, it's like a bottleneck; lymph starts backing up in the system creating a toxic OXYGEN-DEPRIVED environment conducive to degeneration and disorder. Toxic lymph can be stored for a long time in the system. This is not a healthy condition. MOVING STAGNANT LYMPH IS A KEY TO WELLNESS. Once you clear up the lymph flow, which is an essential component of the immune system, you can enhance the body's natural healing ability to clear up illness. Your lymph system is actually a vital circulatory system with an extensive network of vessels throughout the body. Your body contains about 50% more lymphatic fluid than blood. The system contains over 600 collection sites called lymph nodes. These nodes are formed at the junction sites of the lymph vessel network. The system is responsible for supplying plasma-rich protein to your blood as well as carrying away toxins and other debris. It is your primary defense against bacteria, viruses and fungus. Most chronic (disease) problems occur at the junction of lymph vessels called lymph nodes. In men the inguinal nodes, in the crease of the groin, are the primary channel for release of accumulated lymh from the prostrate. In women the axillary nodes, located in the arm pit, are the primary channel for releasing accumulated lymph from the breasts. An impaired lymph system often results in Colds; Flu; Sinus Problems; Excess Water and Fluid Retention; Impaired Heart Health; Fibrocystic and Tender Breasts; Cellulite; Enlarged Prostate; and Cancer. There are many inter-linked conditions that can contribute to sluggish lymph circulation and may be IMPROVED by lymphatic treatment. These include but are not limited to: allergies, menstrual cramps, arthritis, prostate disorders, ulcers, breast lumps, parasites, eating disorders, cancer, respiratory infections, cellulite, emphysema, sinus headaches, intestinal blockages, muscle and tissue tension, structural misalignment in the neck and shoulders, and mental confusion and emotional disorder. Most physical and emotional challenges can be AGGRAVATED by blockage of the lymph flow. Factors that can contribute to lymph system blockages include chronic constipation, stress, LACK OF MOVEMENT AND REGULAR EXERCISE, inflammation, poor eating habits, and unexpressed emotions such as anger, fear, or resentment. Other factors can also hamper the natural cleansing process. Artificial and restrictive clothing (such as polyester blouses and tight bras and jeans), air-conditioning, and even antiperspirant deodorants prevent excretion and natural cleansing of toxins. Your skin is the largest eliminative organ and about one third of your body's toxins are excreted through it, which comes to about a pound a day. Blocking this flow of natural design with antiperspirants works against both the lymphatic and immune systems. A healthy lymph system can absorb and discharge unwanted body fat. It carry away excess body fluids and toxic ASCITES (abnormal accumulation of protein and fluid in the peritoneal cavity). It can aid in healing challenges associated with the muscular, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, endocrine and nervous systems. Once again-- your lymph system affects EVERY organ and cell in your body. We do not know of a person who cannot benefit from lymph therapy! A clogged lymph system can benefit from outside help. A professional can use her/his hands, manually, to MASSAGE and stimulate your lymph system, or use special equipment designed for that purpose. GERMANIUM AND OXYGEN THERAPY can help break up the protein congestion in the lymph, turning it from "cottage cheese" back to it's balanced state of clear fluid. When the lymph is moving freely again, it drains into the bloodstream, to eliminate toxic wastes from your body. Moving sluggish lymph flow is a MAJOR KEY in achieving and maintaining good health and vitality."

Is Diclofenac more powerful than Nurofen Plus? I have a really, really bad neck, and have been prescribed Diclofenac by my doctor. Is this stronger than the over the counter drug of Nurofen Plus (Ibuprofen plus codeine)?

Katie replied: "Hi There, Diclofenac is not actually a pain killer, it is an anti inflammatory. It is similar to the ibuprofen in the nurofen, but stronger, however the nurofen plus contains codeine which is a relatively strong analgesic (pain killer). Try the nurofen plus, and see how you go. If you are happy with it, continue to take it otherwise switch and see which helps you better. Hope it helps Katie"

I have pulled a muscle in my back and it is not getting better even after taking paracetamol and diclofenac? I was running and felt my back curling and twisting up, i think i was running to upright, the doctors prescribed paracetamol and diclofenac, I have also rubbed ibuleave maximum strength on the area, but no luck, it is on the right side of my back, please helppppppppp, I have a cricket match coming up that I have to play. Please please please help. Thank-You.

dianne (yummy-mummy) replied: "when i get sore tense muscles from working out i take calcium & magnesium and works and i have a really warm bath to relax the muscles.get someone to massage the area"

sus replied: "Have you tried heat & cold treatment? I personally prefer icing the area. Wrap some cubes in towel & apply on the sore area. Remember to warm up before your run & stretch after that plus do some core exercise that will help keep your back strong during a run as well."

Douglas B replied: "Can you reach around and find the sore spot with your hands? If you can you can do this sitting up in a chair with a good back in it. Run your finger or thumb along your ribs until you get to the pain. Once there you have to put pressure on top of it or as close to the side of it as possible. Press in hard and hold, with a little pressure towards the pain. Now you have to relax, take a deep breath and exhale, and don't tense up any part of your body, including the arm you are using, let it hang loose while you push yourself back into the chair so your finger is caught in that position. After about thirty seconds it should release, or hold until it does. If it doesn't check if you were relaxed, and try again. Once it releases check the rib above it and below it to make sure they weren't affected also."

My Ferritin is low at 5. Can my Diclofenac cause this? Also what effect does a Ferritin of 5 do to my health? My medication is: Diclofenac 50 mg three times a day (ad hoc basis - as it causes fluid retention, usually half a stone). Tramadol, Amitriptyline, Solpadol and Propranalol. I only take Diclofenac when absolutely necessary, and the pain is unbearable, but I do notice that every time I do take it I swell up. Can this be dangerous? Also on this batch of bloods, my GP said that my Thyroid function tests were low - could there be a link with the two results? I am very grateful for any information anyone can share with me, as the GP has not stopped prescribing the Diclofenac, despite my bringing to his attention the associated fluid retention. Many thanks for your time.

Angela V replied: "I take Arthrotec 75 mg. 2xday, which contains Diclofenac. If your Ferratin iron store is low, you are probably anemic. Bleeding from a NSAID can cause anemia. Usually the bleeding from NSAIDS are in the form of bleeding ulcers. The fluid retention could be caused by the Dicoflenic, it can raise BP and cause heart condtions. I have had a low Ferratin iron result before, with a Hemoglobin of 6, this was caused from excessive blood loss. Once the problem was resolved and I took prescription iron tablets for 6 months , my iron stores and hemoglobin came back up. Anemia causes extreme, overwhelming body fatigue, shortness of breath (from lack of oxygen from too few red blood cells), dizziness, pale skin, and strange cravings to eat unusual things such as ice cubes, chalk, etc. This is known as Picca. Get your iron stores and hemoglobin back up, you will feel 100% better."

Can I take Ibuprofen, Naproxen or Tylenol with Diclofenac? My doctor has prescribed me Diclofenac 75 mg (that It ake twice a day) for my rheumatoid arthritis. Could I safely take any other pain management over-the-counter medications?

S&yW replied: "Call your pharmacist and ask him, or your doctor...If ever I am unsure of mixing meds, I call the pharmacy that I go to and they will let you know whether or not its okay. I wouldn't trust just anyone's answer as you never know if they're qualified. You can trust the pharmacist, tho'."

Shaun T replied: "You can safely use tylenol with diclofenac. Do not use naproxen or ibuprofen because they are in the same class of medications and it can increase the risk for stomach bleeding or ulcers. Hope this helps."

Can I take diclofenac with alli? I was prescribed diclofenac and I wanted to start alli. Can I take both?

Dayna replied: "do not use dietary supplements. at all. exercise right. work up a work out routine. you can even make one up. eat fruits vegtebles and the occasional meat-not every day though. do this routine and food choice 6 DAYS A WEEK. and on the 7th day eat all the junk food you want. and lay around eat potatoe chips and watch tv all day. continue to do this and you will look great. but you WILL WEIGH MORE because you will have gained so much muscle. MUSCLE GAINS MORE THAN FAT. my 2nd cousin did this and lost bout 55 pounds in the first month."

internits replied: "Ask your doctor. You are better getting it prescribed, as the stuff you buy is only half strength, plus you need advice or you risk VERY embarrassing side effects!. Make sure you are taking Omeprazole along with those painkillers, as they are quite harsh on your stomach lining."

Is it necessary to finish my Diclofenac? My doctor prescribed a 7 day supply of Diclofenac for my ankle. I have taken it for one day and it's caused minor stomach cramps/aches for me... which is one of the possible side effects. My question is: is it necessary for me to finish the entire prescribed amount or can I just stop taking it now?

SZO replied: "It is advised that you stop taking Diclofenac and call your Doctor if you experience stomach pain (as well as other symptoms such as heartburn, vomiting a substance that is bloody or looks like coffee grounds, blood in the stool, or black and tarry stools)."
