TD replied: "I didn't have any side effects with Paxil...it just didn't help me."

kitkool replied: "yes they are also side effects of paxil although maybe not as common... after a few months on the meds some of the more pronounced side effects should dissipate. If not see your doctor to discuss this issue."

kikime replied: "you have only been taking them for a few days? this very well could be. your body is trying to adjust to this new med and doesn't know how to deal. how ever i think its to soon to be having all of these symptoms, i would call your Dr in the morning and tell them and i would ask for a different me maybe Zoloft that works well with many people. good luck"

cexisnowbunny replied: "yes, unfortunately it is a fairly common side effect of antidepressants. i had the same problem with a couple of different ones. i got feed up with not being able to sleep because of this and stopped taking them. they says lexapro is supposed to have the least amount of side effects, but that the one i just stopped cold turkey on cause i couldnt take it anymore. Mine lasted for a few months"

Angie B replied: "Here are some side effects listed from drugs.com: agitation, confusion, sweating, fast heartbeat If it's really a problem for you and/or it happens often, you should speak to your doctor. Everyone is different so maybe he'll just tell you it will fade away or he'll switch the strength or the drug itself."

ruthie replied: "Call your pharmasist and ask him these questions. Now you should have gotten a paper with the list of side effects on it. See if you can find it before you call him, check on the list for the things you mentioned. It is NOT the same as taking hormones. I think, it takes about at least 2 or 3 weeks to feel the effects. Could there be something else going on in your body or enviroment?"

JCo replied: "I took Paxil for a while, and never had those side effects. However, it wasn't very effective for me. I then took Effexor, which was very effective, but left me with terrible withdrawl symptoms if I forgot to take it at the same time every day. I am now on Cymbalta and Wellbutrin together, which is actually a very good combination, and prescribed by my doctor (I'm not a drug addict or anything). The Cymbalta (and Effexor) work on seratonin levels, which many other antidepressants do not. The Cymbalta also does not leave me with the horrible feeling of withdrawl. Also, the Wellbutrin helps with sexual side effects. It is actually prescribed at times to increase libido. Hope this helps."

johnneedsaname4 replied: "Yes. I take Effexorxr and it makes me sweat like a freeking pig. Better than being suicidal but it does suck. I've been on my meds for 2 1/2 years, still the same sweating problem. My Dr. did prescride clonidine for the night sweats and it helped a lot. Good luck!"

Red replied: "Yep, that sounds like Paxil... Be glad you aren't also experiencing screaming nightmares 3 or 4 times a night... I'll freely admit that I have a bad attitude about Paxil. I had to take it for several months back when I was first diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My side effects were bad, and never faded, and eventually I insisted that I be allowed to stop taking the medication. Of course, I have strong reactions to most medications (non-drowsy allergy meds will make me unable to sleep for 48 hours), so my reaction isn't typical. My mother took Paxil for 6 weeks after having surgery for breast cancer and never had any trouble with it. If you've been taking the stuff for longer than 3 or 4 weeks and still have problems, definitely talk to your doctor about what you can take instead."

andysing37 replied: "Paxil side effects Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine whether it is safe for you to continue taking this medication. During the first 4 to 6 weeks, you may find some side effects less troublesome (nausea and dizziness, for example) than others (dry mouth, drowsiness, and weakness). Side effects may include: Abnormal ejaculation, abnormal orgasm, constipation, decreased appetite, decreased sex drive, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, gas, impotence, male and female genital disorders, nausea, nervousness, sleeplessness, sweating, tremor, weakness, vertigo (there is a lot larger of a list of side effects that the manufacturer is not required to publish. Remember Viox?) Personally, I would much rather deal with the anxiety. It's safer and much more natural. Facing fear builds courage. I'm not sure about Paxil, but most drugs of this type (Adderall has been "outlawed" in Canada) contain Methylphenidate which from what I understand can easily be converted into Meth-Amphetamine."

JC replied: "I would highly like to recommend a book called 'The antidepressant fact book'.....I was placed on paxil for a few days while still in the hospital for a heart related problem, and when I was able to find out about the medication I discontinued it immediately. I know lots of people take it, but it is not for everyone....I urge you to use caution and research this medication as much as possible. I would also hope you consider a second opinion. In regards to your side effects, Paxil has been known to create a variety of these problems. It just may not be for you, and I would discuss this with the doctor who gave it to you.....best of luck."

I just started taking Paxil 20mg. How long will it take for drowsiness side effect to go away? I was told that it can take 2 weeks to get used to medication.

the_only_solorose replied: "i would say two weeks is about right for the body to begin to adjust, do not look for major changes in mood for about six weeks."

chagrined_again replied: "I was also told it would take 2 weeks, however, it took me about 6 weeks to feel 'right' on Paxil... which is when it is supposed to be fully effective. Try not to worry if your tiredness don't go away quite at 2 weeks... these are just guidelines and everyone is different. Once the Paxil is working to it's full potential... you will feel lots better! Hang in there dear!"

Do the side effects associated with taking Paxil CR (controlled release) disappear over time? Hi there. I have been taking Paxil CR 12.5 MG for 10 days and am experiencing dry mouth, constipation, loss of appetite. And its bugging me! Do these side effects generally disappear over time? Or will I always feel like this?

cutie replied: "I took paxil for a bit and the symptoms do decrease over time. What ever you do, make sure you follow the dosage and do not stop taking this med suddenly. You will have to be weened off it to avoid another round of crappy side effects."

dw27432003 replied: "Most side effects do go away after a few weeks; however, if your side effects do not subside after about three to four weeks, perhaps your Dr. can prescribe something else for you. Something to be watchful of is dizziness, anxiety and weakness, if these occur rise slowly from a sitting or lying position you don't want to get up to quickly and risk a bad fall."

gmonte33 replied: "Most of the time side effects should diminish or disappear over time as your body adjusts to the drug."

What are the possible side effects of taking 10mg of Paxil and St. Johns Wort together? I am suffering from depression and anxiety..... I have been taking herbal supplements recently. St. Johns Wort, Valerian Root, and Kava Kava. Can I combine any of these herbal remedies with my Paxil or should I just take the Paxil alone?

kayliking1987 replied: "dont take st john's wort...it has something to do with the release of neurotransmitters and the effects of your paxil"

H1976 replied: "Yeah, as above! St Johns Wort is a no no! Also because these 'herbal' natural remedies do not go through half the testing that medication goes through, so there is a lot os scope for side effects. I would stick to the Paxil, and see how it goes, give it at least 6-8 weeks."

VISA666 replied: "DO NOT MIX THEM UP! My advice: stay away from that BS St. Johns Wort"

I am currently taking Paxil. My only side effect is Sweating which is very embarassing. What can I do? Is there another presription? I have tried different anti-persiprants to no avail...plus the sweating is over my entire body. Pretty Gross, I know but if you have a suggestion...

daiquiri_dream replied: "Check with your doctor for a prescription for sweating. I do not know the exact name of the medication, but there is one available for this very reason."

john w replied: "well it depends you can do the Home remedy for sweating which is( Boil five tea bags in a quart of water for five minutes. When the solution cools, soak your hands or feet for twenty to thirty minutes nightly. Tea contains tannic acid, which is also found in commercial products such as Zilactol, and Zilactin. The astringent properties of tannic acid are thought to be partly responsible for its antiperspirant action. ) or you can stop taking paxil, ask your family doctor if you dont like these solutions"

Useless replied: "Do NOT use Paxil Suspension if: you are allergic to any ingredient in Paxil Suspension you are taking dextromethorphan, fenfluramine, nefazodone, pimozide, selegiline, sibutramine, St. John's wort, thioridazine, tramadol, or tryptophan you have taken a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor (eg, phenelzine) within the last 14 days Possible side effects of Paxil Suspension: All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome: Abnormal dreams; abnormal ejaculation; abnormal skin sensations; blurred vision; constipation; decreased appetite; decreased sexual desire or ability; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; fatigue; headache; impotence; nausea; nervousness; painful period; runny nose; sleepiness; sore throat; stomach pain; sweating; vomiting; weakness; weight loss; yawning."

is there a better way to get off paxil besides taking less everyday??? It goes different day to day when the effects of not taking paxil will effect me and i need to know is there a better way to quit??????? besides takeing less?

Lina replied: "Do what I did just stop it all at once."

m.axine replied: "no anybody who has been taking medication for long periods should never suddenly stop taking them. This can be very dangerous. The only way to stop taking medication that you have been taking for long periods is to slowly reduce to dose. Speak to your doctor about it, he/she will recommend the right dosage for weaning you off it. Please dont just stop, the withdrawal symptoms will be worse that what your getting now."

maslyn_jl replied: "I stopped taking paxil right away and didn't have any problems."

Has anyone taken Paxil and had this side effect? I started taking Paxil like 3 days ago and I am noticing that it is sometimes tightening up my jaw or making my chatter my teeth as if I were really cold. It doesn't bother me that much, just don't know if it is the drugs or me!

icewalk17 replied: "I have taken paxil before and it did nothing for me. However you can check the side effects and find other usefull information at webmd, I also took wellbutrin for a bit and it was worthless"

Tara J replied: "When I took Paxil in the immediate release form, I had problems of shakiness and anxiety. When I took Paxil again, I got Paxil CR and never had any problems like that. If this continues, ask your doctor if they can prescribe Paxil CR if that's not what you're already on. Since you're only 3 days in, I'm sure it will go away on it's own. It usually takes about a month for all the minor side effects to subside."

Beth replied: "Yes! I just started paxil a few days ago as well, and was worried about these same symptoms, as well as shakiness. If anyone knows whether or not it's something to be worried about, or if it'll stop, then please comment!"
