Is the medication ALEVE a molecule that is naturally made or synthetically? && what are the physiological impacts on the human body? please help me out. i have this project due wednesday for my antomy class && i cant find much info. THANKyou!

sweet pea replied: "Aleve is a synthetically created molecule. It is actually called naproxen sodium (but no one calls it that anymore :-). Naproxen belongs to a class of drugs called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Other members of this class include ibuprofen (Motrin), indomethacin (Indocin), nabumetone (Relafen) and several others. These drugs are used for the management of mild to moderate pain, fever, and inflammation. They work by reducing the levels of prostaglandins, chemicals that are responsible for pain, fever and inflammation. Naproxen blocks the enzyme that makes prostaglandins (cyclooxygenase ), resulting in lower concentrations of prostaglandins. As a consequence, inflammation, pain and fever are reduced. Naproxen was approved by the FDA in December, 1991. Hopes this helps a little :-)"

What is the difference between tendonitis and carpal tunnel? Our family physician just gave my husband splints and told him to take some aleve for his hand problems. His hands and fingers hurt, more so at night, and nothing seems to be helping. We are just trying to figure out what it could be before we see a specialist. What are the major differences between tendonitis and carpal tunnel? Any info. would be helpful!!!

Dr. Robert Rice replied: "Tendonitis is the inflammation (thus usually the aching) of tendons. Carpal tunnel is an anatomical structure on the distal anterior forearm. If you mean carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), then that is a syndrome whereby the tendons, nerves, and vessels that pass through the carpal tunnel at the wrist become impinged because of an increase in the size of the muscles that pass through them. Most cases that I've seen are NOT true CTS cases. They are misdiagnoses. If this doesn't work, take him to the chiropractor because the nerve may not be "pinched" in the carpal tunnel but actually in the neck. Results can be phenominal if it's not really CTS."

TROY replied: "Tendonitis is actually inflammation of the tendon itself. With carpal tunnel, the problem involves the nerves as well, from repeated movements, not necessarily injury. With carpal tunnel, you also have tingling in the hands and numbness. webmd.com is a good place to go for medical info."

Samm replied: "It sounds like Rheumatoid Arthritis. I have it and it migrates . Two years ago it was in my knees severely. A 10 day bout of prednizone took care of my knees. Then it moved to my wrists and left thumb joint, right upper jaw joint. Took prednizone again they got better. But it is coming back into my left thumb joint and wrist badly. Now the worst is my back low spine, below the waist and between the shoulder blades. Does any of this sound familiar? I had to Take 2 Ibuprofen every 4 hours and 2 Excedrin every 4 hours. Ibuprofen does not kill pain for me but it did remove the inflammation and swelling. I also went on an a to z vitamin program and that has helped a lot. Mine is worst in the morning 4 am, when I wake. I have major stiffness and pain. At its worst, I could barely walk, had to use a raised "twalett" seat. The knees would not lift my own weight and no I really do not weigh a ton. It might be worth going to a rheumatologist for an evaluation. I definitely sympathize, mine came on fairly abruptly nearly 3 years ago . I would say without warning, but once I was diagnosed there really was warning. I just thought it was the joy of age, which it is. Good Luck. PS. the pain from tendinitis and carpal tunnel and RA are basically the same, they all hurt."

Sprained my Ankle and need some info? i was riding my bike at the track and hit a jump and fell wrong sprained my ankle and twisted my knee i dont think its anything serious but i can always use some info my ankle is a little swollen its been 1 week now i can see black and blue marks on the side of my foot Ive iced it for the first couple of days and now I'm just trying to keep it straight and still, i have been using crutches but it feels weird when i stand up like my leg gets a little red and my calf muscle feels stiff and soar, also have been taking Aleve and i cant bend my knee all the way without it hurting not even at 90 degrees so any advice and info would be much appreciated thxs

Lisa replied: "Keep the leg elevate as much as possible ice on for twenty minutes then off for the same length of time"

Sina.ak47 replied: "i would visit a doc. alos make sure the ice isnt directally touching your skin."

Ray K replied: "After making sure you have no broken bones, go to the health food store and buy a bottle of Shark Cartilage. Take one with every meal for about a week and it will rebuild any torn ligaments or cartilage. The second week cut back to about one a day. I hyper extended my knee, and it felt great in about 3 days."

love.love.love.13 replied: "its probably sore because all of the swelling has settled into the area...you should move it around as much as possible. it will hurt at first but when you work some of that swelling out it will feel a lot better. i would also keep it wrapped to try to keep out the swelling...it should get better in a couple weeks"

Does anyone know an allergy medicine that is as good as Aleve Cold and Sinus...they took it off the shelves? My mom is feeling so horrible. They took this medicine off the shelves this past week and mom says that it was the only thing that worked. It's true...I can tell the difference from when she does take it. She has been feeling really bad these past few days and I'd like to do something about it. She has missed work all this week. I am thinking that they took it off the shelves because of all the meth heads. There was a point in time where we could just pick it up right off the shelves...now we have to take a paper up to them so they can take it out from behind the counters and then they take all our info from our identification cards. It really sucks that we have people out there that mess it up for the people that are in a real need for this medication. If you have any advice...please let me know. Thanks.

Terry F replied: "Yeah, they've buckled down on that, for sure. I just go to the drugstore. They still have it on the shelves here in SC, but you still have to sign for it. Aleve C&S is really good. I started using it by accident when I caught a sale and bought some."

tinkerbell replied: "YOU CAN GET THE MEDICINE, YOU ONLY HAVE TO SHOW YOUR ID, IF THE MEDICINE IS WORTH IT, THEN YOU SHOULD DO IT FOR YOUR MOM."

danksprite420 replied: "Bennadril, Works wonders for me, And Clairitin Allergies Suck @ss And It's those D^MN CRACK HEADS ruining it for the people who REALLY need the medicine. I hope your mom feels better, If you light a green candle it will help the resting process, It has to do with color and aroma therapy, it works, I do it all the time. Tell your mommy to feel better and get lots of rest."

books are cool replied: "Have her take a regular Aleve and a pseudophed. That is the same thing. You have to get the pseudophed behind the counter now (at least in Illinois). Its no longer on the shelves, but the at the pharmacy."

greenbloomers replied: "Frankly the best cure for a cold is.... wait for it..... Ginger and Lemon!! Get root ginger.... grate it...(like cheese) then squeeze the oil into a large plastic bowl! Next get a lemon and squeeze the juice out of it into the bowl with your ginger..... then fill with about 300ml boiling water! Steam face (towel over the head.... deeeeep breaths) Then go to bed and snuggle up with some easy tunes on the beatbox!.... socks on!.... and drink plenty of water! Alternitively... rub her back, chest and neck with Tiger Balm.... it's good melted in hot water too!"

SWSunflower replied: "I personally know of several medications made by a company in Idaho Falls Idaho called Melaleuca, Inc. Melaleuca makes an allergy medication called CounterAct Allergy that is a non-drowsy formula and works very well for me and my family. They also make CounterAct Day and CounterAct Night which help the cold and flu symptoms as well as CounterAct Cough medication. Melaleuca also manufactures naturally based and organically derived home and personal hygene products as well as patented nutraceuticals (plant based pharmaceutical supplements) which have saved both my husbands and my life. (My husband had Congestive Heart Failure after a 6-way heart by-pass and had some bad reactions to the medications like Lipitor and others given to him by his Dr. When he started taking the Provex CV (for heart health) his health improved 100% and his doctors are quite impressed. I also have a chronic illness and these are the only products that I have found to work consistantly with no side effects whatsoever.) Melaleuca is like a Sams or Costco in that it is a buyers club and the One time membership cost is $29.00, but they will give you that $29.00 back in the form of products next month (November) if you begin shopping there this month. If you check out the website you will see a sku# $X.XX (x.xxpc xpts) the price you pay as their customer is in the Parenthesis-pc stands for preferred customer and the pts is their international currency conversion rate. They have various promotions but you can cancel your membership and even return the empty bottles for a full refund after 60 days. I truly believe that this is a life-altering company and recommend it highly."

Saml J replied: "Claritin works for my allergies.. clears my sinuses and fends off an attack. If the product was helpful to you, by all means, take the time to ask for it. Once they have your ID, the next purchase should not be a problem. Lot's of luck in your search."

what to take for this lower back pain? those are my previous questions from which u will get all the info u need. in my house, i have aleve pills, advil pills, and tylenol liquid. the tylenol is 500mg for back pains. which one should i take? oh yeah, last night i slept on my side and this morning when i woke up, i felt a bit better. and i just remembed that i have a heating pad that i will try later on as i don't want my parents to find out i am in pain. they'll kill me cuz i keep gettin injured over nothing. i suck at all sports and they keep telling me how i'm so freakin lazy that all i do is watch tv and be on the computer so i can't tell them i hurt my back.... i slipped on the grass and fell as in my feet went in the air. i don't need answers tellign em to see a doctor as i've been surfing the web and now i KNOW i don't need a doctor and that rest, and over the counter medicine will cure me. i put iodon rub or something on it. it said its from backpain/joint pain

Sic_4_lyfe replied: "im jsut a kid but take same advil or tyloneol"

Erica F replied: "I was in a car accident and screwed up my back bad but the docs said there was nothing I could do but control the pain will over the counter stuff. I am a server and I was in more pain than I could handle by the end of my shift. My saving grace was excedrin back and body. I LOVE THAT STUFF. It works better than any other med I have taken OTC. Try that."

Jack Of All Trades replied: "I'd go with the Aleve and possibly some back stretching exercises (nothing too rigourous). A nice massage would probably do you wonders as well. Maybe a "heat rock" massage to loosen up your back muscles a bit. Hope you start feeling better."

proudmommy replied: "i suggest that you take tylenol every 4 hours. it works the best. unless there is a way that you can get some midol. midol is a miracle worker on all types of pain. good luck. hope that you feel better."

Matastic replied: "start by putting your wallet in your front pocket."

Jackie replied: "First don't use dry heat on your back it may feel better at the time but will not help with any inflammation you may have. Ice 20 min. on then 20 off. Advil is the best if you do have inflammation but you should really tell your parents if the pain continues for more than a week because that could be an indication of something more serious...."

starcat replied: "Unless we have a medical degree, it's a scary thing to self-diagnose. Many things can be damaged from a fall. No one can give you medical advise or tell you what medicines to take either. Only your doctor can. You can use heat for temporary relief, and if symptoms don't go away in a few days, I would let your parents know as more serious things could be going on. I did the same as you when I was young. I had a serious fall with my horse but hid the pain from my parents. I am now in my 40's and found the damage that was done by that fall. My pelvis was damaged and healed incorrectly. I forever live with constant low back and abdominal pain, and there is nothing that can be done. Please think twice about telling your parents. Don't make the same mistake I did just because you wanted to be strong about it."

Anyone else ever injured their tailbone? I injured mine while go karting. Someone slammed into me which jolted me in the seat. I didn't totally feel it at the time, it wasn't until later when I sat down, then tried to stand back up, that I realized I hurt my tailbone. Anyways, that was 3 mos ago and it still hurts EVERY time I stand up. Aleve has helped a little. I didn't go see a doc. today, it felt like my tailbone popped. So now for the question... how did you injure your tailbone? How long did it take to fully heal? Have you ever needed surgery to fix your tailbone? Any other info you can provide would sure be helpful. Thanks.

J. David S replied: "Mmmm, been there, done that! Get a doctor to give you the medical term for it. Popping usually comes from cartilage. I'm not certain on the recuperation period here."

f350lariat replied: "I bruised mine after a bike accident when I was a kid. It took me almost a two months for it to stop hurting. But I heard it could take ten years to mend even if you don't feel it. Go to your doctor and get checked out. He/she might tell you "you broke your ass"...lol."

ALF08 replied: "I actually bruised my tailbone when i was younger. I honestly dont remember how long it took to heal, i just remember being in pain for a week or so. Sitting especially. If it doesnt go away i would contact the doc. Just to be safe and not sorry. It may be something besides your tailbone. Good luck"

PuppetyDog replied: "I broke my tailbone (confirmed by x-ray) 5 or 6 years ago and my symtoms sound exactly like yours - painful sitting and sometimes, even more painful getting up from sitting. I broke mine while picking up my nephew...he was standing and I bent down and he was a lot heavier than I expected. I fell back and my butt landed right on the ground. It didn't even hurt that much until later, just like you. Since this has been going on for 3 months, I would be surprised if it isn't broken. They don't do anything for it, it just has to heal on its own. Get a donut pillow, you can find them at drug stores, like Walgreens and CVS. Another note, the first x-ray I had said my tailbone wasn't broken. Then a few months later it was x-rayed again and they did see the fracture. Sometimes a small one can be very hard to spot. Also, I remember it hurting for a long time. It did better over time, but very slowly. Even now sometimes once in a great while it hurts if I sit a certain way or sometimes when I stand up. But now it's pretty rare. Even a year after it happened it bothered me occassionally...but not as much as it does now. Some people say it bothers them for years and years, some people not. Even thought doctors can't really do anything but treat the pain for a broken tailbone, you should go anyway and get some x-rays because there are cysts and things like that can cause your symptoms. But with your description of the injury it does sound like it is just broken. Good luck!"

whitepearl1 replied: "owch i feel your pain i have hurt my tail bone slipping on some rocks on the beach once its very pain full and it take a long time to heal. Because the tailbone is connected to the ligaments that hook up to the pelvis, when you injure a tailbone, first of all, you have a bone bruise, the bone is right there, when you fall on it it bruises, it is like crushing the bone a little. There is a layer on top of the bone called the periosteum which is like the skin of the bone. The periosteum has a lot of nerve fibers in it that are very sensitive so its painful and it often takes up to six months for this to heal up. People should check to make sure that they don't have fractures, even though it is the tailbone that you fall on, the tailbone is the bottom of the sacrum and the sacrum is connected up to the pelvis. Getting back to the ligaments, the tailbone injury could have also caused damage to the iliolumbar ligaments or the sacroiliac ligaments, they could be sprained very badly. See your doctor and get a x-ray done"

mychelle1270 replied: "When I was just a kid (I am thinking like 8) I fell asleep on the couch. My dad tried to get me up and walk me to bed. I was sleepy and disoriented and I pulled back from him. I stumbled back and my tail hit the wooden arm of the couch. I heard a loud cracking noise and so did Papa. I crumpled to the floor. It took months for me to stop hurting when I said on hard surfaces. Now almost 30 years later I still can't to sit ups because rocking on the floor on my tailbone hurts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Taken from the site listed below. Broken Tailbone Symptoms Symptoms may include: Pain that increases with sitting or getting up from a chair Pain that increases during a bowel movement Bruising or swelling Tenderness over the tailbone Broken Tailbone Diagnosis The doctor will ask about your symptoms and how the injury occurred, and perform a physical exam. The exam may include a rectal exam. During a rectal exam, the doctor places a lubricated, gloved finger into the rectum and feels for any abnormalities. If the coccyx is fractured, your doctor may feel abnormal movement of the coccyx. X-rays may or may not be required. Broken Tailbone Treatment Treatment aims to manage pain until the bone can heal. Even if the coccyx has moved out of its normal position, doctors usually do not try to correct the misalignment. Muscles in the area are powerful and can pull the coccyx back out of position. Because of the location of the coccyx and the number of muscles attached to it, immobilization is very difficult. That muscle movement also delays healing. The area may remain painful for an extended period of time. You may be advised to stay in bed initially, or move only as comfort allows. After a reasonable healing time, steroid injections or surgery may be considered if severe pain persists. Pain Relief You may be given medication to ease the pain. To reduce discomfort during bowel movements: Drink plenty of fluids and eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Stool softeners may help decrease straining during bowel movements. Sitz baths can help relieve muscle spasms. A sitz bath involves soaking the anal area in warm tap water for 10-20 minutes. Sitting can be very uncomfortable after a coccyx fracture. Suggestions to make sitting less painful include: Sit on an air cushion or doughnut pad. Alternate between sitting on one side of the buttock or the other. Try sitting on a hard chair. Sinking into a soft chair sometimes increases the pressure on the coccyx. Slouch to move your weight forward and off the coccyx. Note: This advice holds only until you are well enough to sit properly again."

cwigg replied: "I fell down on the icy sidewalk years ago. It took months for the pain to completely go away, especially after sitting for a long period of time."

Becky W replied: "i fell down on Christmas eve leaving my house.when i fell i hit so hard that it felt like i got about 2 inches shorter. it hurt right away and still does. the lower part of my back was swollen and still is a little. i hurt so bad when i had a bm i cried. i found out if i sat on a hard chair instead of a soft one it helped not hurt so much. the pain has eased up a lot but i still have pain with it. the doctor said that it takes a long time to heal but there is nothing they can do for a broken tailbone.take whatever helps the pain and wait till it heals. good lick"

And if you are allergic to any of the meds on the list just simply do not take them. This was simply a suggestion and was hoping it would come in handy for some. If you question my motives then dont do it!!

Peanut's mommy (Due Sept 14) replied: "That's a good idea, people apparently don't know what Google is or how to ask their doctor they just take meds then ask."

Stardust Baby girl due oct 23rd replied: "dont forget paracetamol under headache/fever..or pain relief - if u have backache you can also use Heat Pads (the ones that go over your clothes or use a hot water bottle) in uk we dont have tylenol or acetaminophen and under heartburn/indigestion - Gaviscon or Milk of Magnesia Avoid: Disprin, Co-codamol and any other pain relief all bar paracetamol, Also avoid Ibuleve Gel, any Muscle Rubs like Deep Heat or Deep Freeze and also Voltarol Emulgel."

DisgruntledCynic replied: "I hoped you would add that NONE of these drugs should be used regularly without the guidance of a health care provider. All of these drugs have been "suggested" by research to be safe, but that certainly doesn't guarentee that they are safe, and for some women who have high-risk pregnancies or pre-existing chronic health conditions some of these will be TOTALLY off limits. Most women will certainly not suffer from taking any one of these, but to suggest that they are all completely safe for anyone in normal dosage is not responsible. I would highly suggest that women suffering from allergies, cough/cold, congestion and constipation especially would consult with their health care provider before taking anything listed."

Arthritis Pain? I had a surgery in 2007 in which three bones were taken out of my left wrist. I now have arthritis pain, and I was looking for something to supplement the Aleve I'm taking. Part of my embarassment at asking is that no one believes that a 21 year old can have arthritis. I had a condition called Kienbock's Disease. It's where the lunate bone deteriorates. Just a little info on why I have arthritis. Please help if you can.

twowords replied: "Although you probably don't want to try it, there are numerous posts from people on Earth Clinic that use Apple Cider Vinegar, in liquid or tablet form, taken twice a day for pain, and they had amazing results. ."

sokokl replied: "I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis at the age of 19 (I am now 36) and I ran in to one doctor that didn't want to believe that a young person (I was 30 at the time this happened) could have osteoarthritis. One doctor thought I had Lupus which I didn't. The reports from my various tests, especially the rheumatologist (the doctor that treats my arthritis) show that I do indeed have osteoarthritis. I bring this up because I empathize on the issue of how some think about young adults having problems that are usually associated with the older population. As to how to help with some of the pain, one thing that could be of help is trying glucosamine and chondritin. If you would ever like to talk one on one please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time."

Mr. G replied: "trust me I really do know how you feel, try heat and then wrap it for 30 min. a day after you apply the heat, moist is best, ace bandage is best, a simple trick is to put rice in a nylon and tie it shut, put that in a long sock and tie it shut. you have just made a heating bag that you can microwave for a couple of min. and it will also make it feel like moist heat. babies are born sometimes with arthritis, everyone has the potential to have it.I have the worst kind and with the help of my doctor, it is under control. find the right doctor who will listen to you and help you get what you need."

thuy625 replied: "get manicure paraffin done it will help you arthritis."

Why do pain relievers make me sick? Does this mean i shouldn't take them? I took some Tylenol PM once, and noticed i felt sick for a little while afterwords, this was a few weeks ago. Today i tried taking 2 aleve and it ended up making me feel really nautious for about an hour, but it made my pain caused from my anxiety disorder go away.. mostly, i have tried eating before and after, it helps some but its still noticeably there.. Why is this? Does this mean i shouldn't take any of these things, or what.. Im supposed to see a doctor monday, if i get medication to help control my anxiety will these symptoms go away? They keep getting worse and worse.. Other info: I am a 16 year old male who experienced a panic attack a few weeks ago, and a few more since then.. No, it actually starts to make me feel sick around 30-45 minutes after i take it

tratum replied: "Maybe its just anxiety. Be sure to tell your doctor about this problem. Maybe he could suggest something different or a different way to take your medicine."

STEVE replied: "It must be psychological. If these over the counter drugs makes you sick during the first hour it would be unusual because these drugs don't really start working until after that time."

I tested postive for marajuna at probation?? I HAVE NOT smoked pot in over 35 years?? The test was done at my probation visit and they are going to send it to the lab. I went to my dr and had a self test done and I am awaiting the results. I took Aleve before my test also drank 16 oz of Replenish sports drink with electrolylets? Would this cause a false "positive?? I don't need info from idiots who think I am lying so if you have any serious answers for me I would appreciate it!! If you are on a :High Horse" your answer is not appreicated!!! This is very serious problem for me and I don't need any idiot telling me I am not telling the truth!! My counselor agrees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

coffeedog11 replied: "Calm down. Were you around anyone who was smoking recently?"

hot_beach_chick08 replied: "Probation, hm, that doesn't sound too good... But I guess they got the results wrong. Ask for a retest. And drink just water this time. Good luck."

HLD RN replied: "settle down, girl! Wow, sounds like they got the test wrong. Have you eaten poppy seeds? They cause a false positive. Have you been near second hand smoke?? The inital test may show a positive, and when they send it out it could be negative.. Hang in there!"
