Effexor Xr 75mg Facts in Q&A
Can Effexor XR 75mg be stored in the refrigerator? I was just curious if there would be any side effects, complications, or a decrease in medication if Effexor XR 75mg was stored in the refrigerator at all times. It seems like it is the only way that I can remember to take my medication at the same time everyday - after dinner! Yes, I comprehend the packaging information and websites state to store Effexor at specific temperatures. I am wondering what would transpire to the medications and myself if it is stored at temperatures around 37F.

madworld replied: "no. you can only store the 150mg. sorry."

kay_flood replied: "yes, you can, as long as your fridge temp is not below 38 degrees. freezing or near freezing will cause breakdown in the crystalline matrix of Effexor. But just putting it in a cool fridge won't hurt at all."

Tahoe replied: "It is supposed to be stored at room temp. away from light and moisture. The fridge is not room temperature."

phoenixstarshine replied: "I am on Effexor-I store it in my medical drawer...I would not store pills in the frig.."

OfficeMom replied: "Storage Store Effexor 75 mg effexor at room temperature (68F to 77F or 20C to 25C"

Intense anxiety with effexor xr 75mg at two weeks? I know several things in my life need to change and it seems like everything is on a big deadline. I have been on effexor xr for two weeks at 75mg and I feel like my anxiety might be worse. Did you have a similar experience. Does it get worse before it gets better?

Jax replied: "Talk to your prescribing doctor about this. I don't think it should get worse before getting better, but don't stop taking it without talking to your doctor. Effexor was terrible for me, I was on it for months (years ago) and my anxiety and depression increased dramatically, putting me over the edge. My doctor at the time wanted me to wait it out. I switched doctors after that."

Medicgirl replied: "Anxiety is common when beginning Effexor. My doc gave me a script for Xanax while I was adjusting. It will go away after your body acclimates. If it really bothers you, ask your doc if you can try a diff antidepressant. P.S. I found Effexor to be like a miracle drug, but I had some bad withdrawal symptoms when I went off after 9 months."

Steven T replied: "get off effexor immediately, the withdrawal symptoms are horrendous, i switched from effexor to prozac with amazing results. I recommend you speak about this with your doc."

dreamer 2 replied: "Yep i experianced the same thing when i took effexor and unforunately i have the same prob with all anti depressants so i a unable to take them.Really you need to go staight back to your doctor and get this sorted asap good luck"

kittykris2002 replied: "Yes, I had a bad reaction to something similar and it made me angry and anxious....tell your doc quick and try something else"

charlton_g_w replied: "so what are you doing other than popping a pill? what is your diet like? what exercise are you getting daily what relaxation techniques are you practicing daily? hypnotherapy-psychotherapy dot com askwaltstollmd dot com"

What can I expect going from Effexor XR 75mg to 150mg? My doctor just doubled my dousage today. I have been on 75 mg for abou 2 years. My Grandma died in August, and I have been having a hard time since.

Tenn Gal replied: "Since you have been on 75 mg for 2 years, you may only have great results. Good Luck. If you feel strange with the higher dose, then just gradually go up to 150mg."

steven s replied: "in short , for your mood to improve"

sinfullydeliciousvixen replied: "well effexor didnt do me any good at all when they tried me on it i ended up on prosac for 2 years until i built up a resistance to it im now on cymbalta i feel for ya on your grandma :-( i hope everything gets better for you.. i lost mine in 98 then lost my dad in 04 its a rough road ahead but you can make it"

jessica z replied: "Hi, and happy new year if your on the east coast. Not yet for me. 1h, 42m to go Anyway, i have been on effexor xr, 150 mg for about 5 years or so. and one thing that i can tell you is that hopefully you'll start to feel better, if the 75mg wasn't doing it for you. Also you may get more dry mouth, but just keep some gum around in case you do. Take care"

Fay S replied: "I was dosed quite high on Effexor for a period of time. With support and someone to talk to and monitor it, can be okay. I felt a little sick for a short period of time when my doses were changed so please be careful. Other than that it was not hard at all, kept me calm and slowed things down made the thought process a lot clearer. Do you find the Effexor is working for you? I was labelled as having a mental issue and therefore acted that way. Lifes little travels throw us off course all the time, try not to be dependent on the medication and remember you Grandma is still around and always will be. Good luck, have faith and be mindful of your medication, it can make the world of difference, but so can you for yourself. I really wish you the best."

SKITZ replied: "my doctor done the same to me a little over a year ago and it depends if you are taking it all at the same time or splitting it in doses. you will probably be a little more tired for a while , but it will help you . since you are already taking it , you should get the benefits almost immediately , instead of the norm of a month or so . write me back if you have any other questions .JIM"

joh n replied: "Hi darlin - I am currently on the same dose - for me it is great - very effective - my depression was after I had my son - I had ect (nothing else help) and no take effexor as a maintainance. Dont freak alot of us out here have had ect and for me it was a miricale. My problem with your question is - "simply increasing your dose will NOT help you." GP's have a very limited knowledge of depression. Go to a psychatrist - they are more aware and intune. Do it now before things progress. Medication alone is not the answer. If your family is not supportive - dont tell them. If cash is short you can get it free on a pension. Simply go to your GP and say "I would like to be free of antidepressants and feel a referal to a psychatrist would help me" If they refuse (which they want because you can sure them) go to another. Good luck darlin."

notsocurlyanymore replied: "I had no problems with it unlike the other meds. I only took it for about a year, but my husband said he noticed that I tended to cry alot more than usual, but hey my homicidal thoughts about him went away as well as the baby blues! All in All you shouldn't have any problems."

MHnurseC replied: "It'll be the better part of a month before you notice anything. You may notice some difficulty sleeping, changes in eating habits (more or less) and you may be jumpy and/or fidgety. If at anytime, you feel an onset or increase in the desire to harm yourself or to end your life, call your doctor IMMEDIATELY! Eat 6 small, healthy meals each day for proper nutrition and weight maintenance and go to bed at the same time each night for optimal sleep. If you find that you are having trouble, talk to the doctor. Good Luck"

Barry replied: "The affects of the adjustment/increase will not be a surprise. It will likely help a little more with depression and coping with stress during this difficult time for you. Sometimes Effexor can cause stomach upset if you go up on it too fast and the dose is sometimes titrated. There are other possible side effects but that does not mean that they will happen. I am sure that your doctor knows what he or she is doing. If you experience any uncomfortable side effects let him/her know. Sometimes side effects can manifest when medication is adjusted/increased but diminish after your body has had sufficient time to adjust (somtimes a few days to a week). I doubt that you will have any problems though seeing as you have apparently been doing fine on the 75mg. Otherwise try to keep busy and stay active with friends=0)"

Ive just started on effexor xr 75mg and i am having some side effects? when will the side effects go away, how long do i have to live like i am on a heavy dose of cold medicine?

Marie replied: "I never had any side effects like that. Talk to your doctor."

Zombiejaci replied: "Try taking it in the evening, unless your doctor specified otherwise. This kind of medicine is an SNRI, so it's actually unusual that you're experiencing drowsiness. The side effects should go away after you've been on it for a while, but if they don't, try taking it in the evening like I said or call your doctor to see if there's an alternative medicine that you won't experience drowsiness on."

PegsPAC replied: "Side effects can last a week or two with Effexor, but they will become less and less. Your dose is not high at all. I had very good experience with it and go back on it (with the help of my doctor) whenever I am having bad anxiety and depression. However, we all react differently to these kind of medications (Effexor is called an atypical antidepressant), so if you continue to experience side effects past the two weeks, let your doctor know...you may need something different."

Where is the cheapest pharmacy to purchase Effexor XR 75mg?? My husband is being relocated to VA and I will have to leave my job Dec 1st. After that, I will no longer have insurance. Does anyone know where the cheapest pharmacy (legit pharmacy) is to fill my Effexor XR prescription might be? Wal-Mart has given me generic for $80, but it doesn't work as well...

Mildred S replied: "ask the walgreeens pharmacist about the card you buy for twenty or so dollars. you get big discount on a lot of name brands if you are not insured. ask them to check and see if this medicine will be covered. if nt , i suggest you look into costco or sams club. get doctor to write a 90 day prescription . get that filled all at once . much less expensive. than buying monthly. you do not have to be a member to go to the pharmacy. just ask at the door and go to and from the pharmacy ask doctor if they can also write a seperate one .. for 90 and one for 30 and use that with the insurance companies right away in dec. before insurance expires. you will probably have insurance at least through Jan 1 ? if so get your other stuff through costco when you no longer have to pay. try to stock up though on this while you are covered . you will have a 3 mo supply ... plus the one month supply ..you tell them you need the 30 to get buy until your mail order prescription is filled . you can consider mail order .. caremark through AAA has a discount."

MAttsprat replied: "CALL AROUND TO THE DIFFERENT PHARMACIES AND PRICE COMPARE. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL HELP. GOD BLESS. GOOD LUCK..."

Lea replied: "Effexor XR is still on patent. It doesn't have a generic. Regular Effexor is generic though. To find the cheapest pharmacy, you just have to call around. Target tends to be cheap. Sometimes, Walgreens has the cheapest price. It's so hard to say."

I took Effexor XR 75mg during pregnancy and still taking it while breastfeeding....? Does anyone has experienced if this can affect the baby? I suffer from anxiety disorder and panic attacks so I can't stop the medication. Also,

Graf Eisen replied: "Ask your doctor or pharmacist, not a bunch of strangers on the internet."

Pippin replied: "Dr. Hale (the world expert on such matters) says that Effexor can be used during breastfeeding."

Jillian replied: "I personally would never take this type of medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Who knows what effects your baby will have from it. Talk to your doctor. Ask for the insert that comes with the medication at the pharmacy. The makers of the drug have probably tested it on pregnant moms and have some information. The antidepressant chemicals work on your brain and remember they will go right to your baby's brain as well."

baby s replied: "I took it after I had my boy I was going through depression, I found it made me paranoid and worse than I was. It took me a long time to get myself off it.I had really bad head aches and felt sick. I also have a friend who used it and she felt worse taken it, I wouldn't recommand taken it."

Cin replied: "my doctor told me most medicines you take during pregnancy are ok to take while bfing"

Yeldarb replied: "the only type of medication you should be taking during pregnancy/breastfeeding is what your doctor prescribes. I am diabetic, and high blood pressure. So I was on insulin because the pills are no good for growing babies...and I was also on pills for my BP. As long as your DR said to take them, then don't be worried."

effexor XR? Hello I am taking effexor XR 75mg since almost 3 weeks and I feel like sleeping ALL the time. My doctor told me to wait one more week but I seriously doubt that things will improve by then. Does anyone had that same problem with that AD?

deshane2530 replied: "I use to take it and it did not have that effect on me. I am on meds that make me sleepy though. It does get better with time usually. So try one more week and if not, then your doc can put you on a new medication. I hope you are feeling better soon!! :)"

Beautiful replied: "I don't know anything about AD, but I have been taking effexor XR for about 4 years now for depression and anxity. It has help me, but you may need to try a different medicine. What works for one person doesn't work for the next. Ask your doctor if there is anything else you could try. Best wishes."

hensleyclaw replied: "75mg is the very low dosage. you may need to increase the dose for better effect. I took this and was taking twice that before my symptoms improved (including the sleepiness). Talk to your doctor about this as this is your best resource for information. If you are not improving, go see a different doctor."

My boyfriend is on Effexor XR 75mg, should he have a higher dosage? He was addicted to crack cocaine for several years, he recentely had a slip up and he wants to go back to the Doctors and get the meds "upped" is this ok? He's ben on them for 4 months now. At the beggining of taking them he felt full of energy and more happy but now he doesnt feel like that anymore. He thinks his body is getting immuned to it. Should he get a higher dosage of anti depressents now? And how will this affect him when he wants to get off them...Will he start having bad withdrawls and want crack cocaine again? Please help me!

Brandy T replied: "A medical professional - particularly his - would be the best person to answer this question...not a site such as this. My brother started on that a month or two ago, and has been very happy with it (he had previously been on other anti-depressants, usually opting to self medicate with other means)."

seth22rr replied: "Have him see a doctor immeadiatly."

Dee25 replied: "He needs to see a doctor to have the dosage increased. I take XR150mg and it has really helped. HTH."

aiki.biker replied: "75 mg is on the low side, but some adults do benefit with this dose. Selecting an antidepressant dose is always a trade-off between effectiveness on the one hand, and increased (risk of) side-effects on the other. Only the prescribing doctor and the patient, discussing it together, can weigh these. Effexor does need to be tapered (stopped gradually), especially at higher doses. Your boyfriend's doc can advise him how when it's time. Effexor isn't a cure for crack addiction, nor will stopping it cause a drug relapse. It's a separate issue. Your boyfriend should be in substance abuse treatment, e.g., Cocaine Anonymous, or a more intensive program."
