what is the dose for children taking phenergan gel? 8 year old child for nausea

LYNN W replied: "I believe it goes by weight not age"

LPnerd replied: "take no advice from here and go call your pharmasist. thats a narcotic."

Wendy V replied: "You can not give a chile ANYTHING for nausea. It will give them a grand mal seizure. And make the vomiting worse. If it was for an allergy then it would be 10mg. If you had got this from the Doctor there would have been instructions on the bottle or pack. If you are giving it to her for vomiting, because you think it will help. DONT!!! If it is that bad go to your Doctor or ER."

How long does phenergan make a child drowsy for? I have given my son phenergan for hives following drs directions and he is now very heavily asleep. How long will he be drowsy for and should I wake him up after a few hours to see if he is ok?

Kelly C replied: "It can make your child drowsy for a very long time! I know my sister in law took it for herself one time at the age of 34 and she slept for 14 straight hours! I would be waking him up after 5 hours if it is only a day time nap!"

Kelly S replied: "Hi, I am a grown woman and I took some, let me tell you it knocks you out good! I sleep for probably 10 hours and was absolutely exhausted for another 4-5 hours. Wake him up if you want to, it wont hurt, but he will probably fall black asleep."

avonmom replied: "I think it lasts 8-12 hours. The last time I had phenergan I was practically comatose for most of the day. ask your doctor if you can give him claritin instead. I had hives over 90% of my body a while back and my doctor told me to take a claritin and a zantac. it took 2 doses to work, but it did work."

2yr old Phenadoz (phenergan) suppository dosage? Hi, I have a 2yr old son who wieghs 31 pounds. He was given Phenadoz (phenergan) suppositories for nausea. The label said to give him half a suppository, but the directions in the box said for his wieght, to take one full suppository. I gave him whole one on accident (they melt fast, forgot to cut it at the last minute). I realized it as soon as I had inserted it. I am overseas at a militart address. There is no Naval hospital here. I am outta luck as far as talking to someone until morning. There is only emergency services after working hours. Has anyone else had a small/young child that has used these suppository's, and if so, what was the dose? Should my son be okay since the box said a whole one? I am gonna watch him carefully over the next couple hours to make sure he is okay, and call medical emergency if any signs of distress. Any information, particularly from a doc, would be GREATLY appriciated. Thanks! He just had a loose stool, so I don't think he had a chance to absorb it all anyways.

Audrey O replied: "I'm not an expert, but i'd say he'd be fine. Seeing as it says whole dose for his weight, means it's an unlikely dangerous amount. And i dont think medicine for nausea will be very poisiness unless taken it very large quantities. Im sure he'l be fine. :) Good Luck"

Doctors can you please help with my nervous stomach? Ever since I was a little girl I have been prone to nervousness and anxiety. I felt nauseous and lightheaded before recitals and big events in my life. Now I am 30 years old and still experiencing this. I can hardly travel sometimes, or drive long distances, because I get butterflies in my stomach so bad. Lately, I've been waking up every morning with a nervous stomach - for no reason at all! It's getting to where I feel constant anxiety all of the time and it's hard to live like this. Sometimes I can't eat or take care of my children well because I feel so horrible. The only way I can ease it a little is to take anti-nausea meds like Dramamine or Phenergan but how do I get rid of the underlying problem - NERVES? Please help! What kind of a doctor should I see about this problem? Am I going to have to get on medication? I hate taking drugs.

The Raven replied: "You may have a condition called Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The symptoms can be easily treated with psychotropic medications such as Klonopin or Xanax. You will feel much calmer and they take the edge off. If you've used your medical doctor for a long period of time, he may prescribe this medication for you if you explain to him your symptoms and concerns. Otherwise, he may recommend for you a psychiatrist and be willing to set up an appointment through his office. Good luck. You will be fine, more people experience this problem than you may realize."

Pan Demonium replied: "this question sounds JUST like me....except i have no kids...i have had a nervous belly since i was 5 and now i'm 26 and it has been worse than ever...i was up nervous and shaky EVERY day..i have asked the asme question..is tehre anything i can do about it?... the answer to MY question was probably my divorce..i was really unhappy and decided to leave and ever since i have done much better..i'm not saying that's YOUR solution..but try to eliminate all the stress you can from your life..i am taking 30mg of buspar everyday to help..it's the only med i have taken that hasn't caused horrible side-effects...anxiety is a tough battle to fight...i just thought i'd let ya know that you're not alone....:)"

what would cause nausea while standing up? I have had these spells occasionallyy before but now im pregnant with second child, 16 weeks, and it happens quite frequently lately, its horrible nausea while im standing, strange feeling in my chest and just an overwhelmind desire to lie down, once i lie down i am ok, but it starts over if i stand up again, i have script for phenergan but it doesnt work, what could this be?

Chelsea replied: "it's from being pregnant ... it's common ... nothing to worry about ... nausea is always worse when you stand no matter what the cause is ... and I can tell you from experience this is the case with pregnancy, the stomach flu, or a hangover ... you stand up and you feel like hurling hope that helps"

McCanns and Phenergan Elixir? This is the stuff people are saying the McCanns might have used on their kids, it is not illegal, it is over the counter not prescription (in this form) and is safe for kids over 2, many Dr's reccommend this for travel sickness and insomnia in children. Why are people equating this to illegal sedation with prescription meds? phenergan and phenergan elixir are different, phenergan tabs are strong, prescription drugs, in the UK phenergan elixer is not. I know bill, but there is a massive difference between an OD of a prescription drug and an OD of an over the counter elixir commonly used for children. Spencer D, no that is not what I said at all.

Bill replied: "If you use the regular dose, sure...if you exceed, big problem. It's a sedative, as are many cough syrups."

smartsassysabrina replied: "In the US, people use benedryl to "help their children sleep", I don't know why people are freaking about phenergan use. Probably because they don't understand what it is."

Spencer D replied: "So are you saying that it is OK to give kids drugs every night to make them sleep? I don't care if it's prescription or not is that anyway to treat children? It's no wonder Maddie was a bit hyperactive - probably getting too much sleep! There are certainly some funny views on parenting!"

d0tti.d0tti replied: "isnt it for allergies as well? i got recommended to take it because i had severe insomnia... people are saying it is illegal etc. to create more contraversy."

My docter prescribed Phenergan for my 9 month old baby? but on the packet it says not to be used on a child under 2 years old! is it still ok to use? the reason he prescribed it is because we are going on a plane but have to get up at 3am and dont catch the plane until 7 and it is a 3 hour flight and I am worried he wont go to sleep on the plane and be restless (he only likes to sleep when he is laying down) do I still give it to him if need be??? I think I will only use it if it really comes down to it Clhoe rileys mum: Thanks heaps!! that was a great answer! :) I didnt know they have to be in your seatbelt aswell!! When my baby is tired he moves heaps!!! so I think I might need to use it! I was just a bit worried.....But thanx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

C K replied: "As long as the doctor prescribed it, it should be ok"

~~CHLOE~~ RILEY'S MUMMY replied: "its safe to use i know heaps of women that used to use it (when you could buy it over the counter) to help get thier bubs to sleep they put two years and over on the bottle cause you can only buy over the counter if the child you are using it for is over two years old - just a safety thing as 'bad mums' would use it just to get thier baby to sleep cause they were lazy but if your bub is unsettled before the plane leaves, i'd definately give it to them... i took my son on a plane when he was six months old and it was only an hour but a bit stressful as he didnt want to sit still and you have to keep them in thier seatbelt which is attached to your waist!! and your bub being 9 months, they will want to move heaps"

what should i do? a friend of mine doses her child on phenergan to make he child sleep what do i do i have told my friend and she told me that i would understand and appreciate phnergen when i have my own kids

loves_the_beach replied: "Tell her that you think it is wrong! Wow, that could end up in some serious problems later on. If she doesn't want to listen to you then go talk to a trusted person and see if they can do anything."

Victoria B replied: "I'm not too sure, and I bet you already know this, but you should tell someone, or talk to your friend about it."

Michelle replied: "Do you go to the same church? If so, you could ask the minister, paster, etc. to speak with her."

Isn't this just cute ? I see endless questions on the site from people who have an upset tummy and nausea, wondering if they might be pregant. Now I come across a warning regarding a popular medicine given to victims of stomach flu, nausea, sea sickness, etc., that actually causes false pregnancy tests results. The medicine is phenergan. My children and I have used it on several occassions, and now years later I learn that it can cause both false positive and negative results on pregnancy tests. You know, that's probably printed somewhere in teeny-tiny letters. Don't you think info like this should be listed in capital letters in bold print ? Pregnancy Tests Diagnostic pregnancy tests based on immunological reactions between HCG and anti-HCG may result in false-negative or false-positive interpretations.

Double . Dee ♥ TTC baby #2 ! replied: "Oh my God... thank you for telling us that. That's nuts! I agree, it should be in big letters."

back ta2 replied: "heck yes!!!!!"

Vicky replied: "Yes you're right, it really should. Sometimes the FDA really sets us up in a big way. Here's another great example: KY jelly says in big letters that it's not a spermicide. But if you put sperm in KY jelly, they can't swim. At all. Which makes them pretty useless when it comes to TTC, eh? There's a lobby to the FDA about this as I write ..... but it's crazy that the huge pharmaceutical companies can get away with this stuff."
