Can you take paracetamol & ibuprofen whilst on Amoxicillin? Im on amoxicillin and in a lot of pain but not sure what pain killers are safe to take =/ please help!

Angel replied: "Yes you can .. make sure you read the packets and don't exceed the doses... If you are on amoxil it is likely you have infection and will have pain... it takes about 24-48 hrs of antibiotics to let them start working.. So alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen taken at 3-4 hrly intervals for a few days will help you feel better.. OOps and loads of fluids to keep you hydrated"

Han replied: "Yes you can take both at the same time if you wish. In fact ibuprofen and paracetamol taken together are more effective than either taken on their own. Painkillers are generally safe to take with anti-biotics (but read the labels, make sure you aren't allergic to any of the painkiller's ingredients) Hope you feel better soon"

Poppypunto replied: "my partner was prescribed paracetamol & amoxicillin in hospital recently so i would say it was fine to take those 2gether.Ur probably thinking of paracetamol & ibuprofen as ur advised not to take those 2gether as they r both painkillers.Amoxicillan is an antibiotic. So therefor u shouldnt take paracetamol & ibuprofen 2gether u should take one or the other but u can take paracetamol & amocicillan or ibuprofen & amoxicillan. If ur still unsure u could phone NHSDirect & get professional advice. The number is 0845 4647(24hr free healthcare advice & information line)."

Lily H replied: "yes - you take 2 paracetamol every 4 hours and 2 ibuprofen every 6 hours, dont take them both every 4 hours its not recommended. if you are unsure then ring boots pharmacy and they will tell you."

legs replied: "Yes you can take painkillers with Amoxicillin - just make sure you only take correct dose - if these don't work (paracetamol/ibuprofen) see GP for something stronger."

Bren replied: "u can take any painkillers with amoxicillin, just make sure u only mix ones that are compatible (ibuprofen and paracetamol are fine) if they are not enough try something like co codamol but dont take paracetamol at same time, tho u can take ibuprofen with it. check with pharmacist it is suitable for u before purchase in case u take other medication."

Kitsune replied: "yes you can, But depending on the pain, you can take amoxicillin with co-dydramol"

Can I take Ibuprofen, Ranitidine, and Amoxicillin together and have no side affects? Ibuprofen- for pain Ranitidine- for Acid Reflux Amoxicillin- for Strep throut

willow replied: "ask your pharmacist."

honeybeelaven replied: "Good luck."

Dan replied: "Yes, you can. They won't interact with each other in any negative way toward you. However, it is inadvisable to take both acid reflux medication and ibuprofen, as ibuprofen is often an elevator of acid reflux symptoms. Ibuprofen is rather bad for acid reflux. Instead of Ibuprofen, try acetaminophen (or paracetamol, it's the same thing), which is also an equally effective painkiller, and it won't affect your acid reflux negatively. Just a bit of advice. Regardless, even if you do take the combination you named, it will not affect you negatively. It would just be better for you medically to be taking acetaminophen. It is very common for many to take a pain killer along with Amoxicillin. This combination will never go wrong, except in the case of allergic reaction to either of the two, in which case you shouldn't be taking one of them anyway. As for Acid Reflux; I have experienced acid reflux for as long as I can remember, and it just so happens that I kept taking medication for acid reflux while having a rather bad strep throat (I was taking amoxicillin and acetaminophen). I had studied basic pharmacology, and knew there would be no reason for the three drugs to interact negatively; and they didn't. I was fine then, and I'm fine now. So switch the ibuprofen to acetaminophen, take the amoxicillin and the ranatidine, and you'll feel great soon enough."

Imaka replied: "I think so, but call your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist. S/he will be able to give you the correct answer to your question ... most of us would be guessing. Best of luck!"

Orinoco_W replied: "If you're not allergic to them, yes you can. Be aware that Ibuprofen can worsen acid reflux and predispose to ulcers. However, some doctors will prescribe Ibuprofen in conjuction with Ranitidine or Pantoprazole or some similar medication to offset this. These medicines are well tolerated. However, just because many people can take them without side effects, does not mean you will not have side effects. For instance, Amoxycillin is notorious for causing nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and rash in some people The more medicines you take, the greater the risk of side effects or drug interactions Good luck"

Fatigue M replied: "My immediate thought is that it should be OK because I have taken those 3 medications together as well. But I would recommend for safety's sake to check with your pharmacist. If you do not feel like checking with your pharmacist, you can always use or WebMD.com to check for problems with taking all 3 together. Hope you get feeling better!"

loveblue replied: "I'm sorry, but I see more and more questions like this. This is a question for your doctor or pharmacist! Sure, there are some very bright users on this site, but you could also risk getting an answer from a guy wearing ruffled purple panties on his head who sings "Ol' McDonald had a farm" all day."

Can Hematuria be caused by Amoxicillin or Ibuprofen? I am taking both Amoxicillin and Ibuprofen, which were prescribed by my doctor for strep throat. Can one (or both) of these medications cause Hematuria? There is a likely hood that I have a UTI. D=

TweetyBird replied: "UTIs can cause hematuria. Although ibuprofen can prolong bleeding time, it doesn't usually do so outside normal parameters."

DoctorWho replied: "Both drugs can cause what is called interstitial nephritis and cause hematuria ,other rare explanation could be what is called Poststreptococcal Glomerulonephritis which is one of non pleasant complications of strep throat infection which sometimes need admission to the hospital for managing blood pressure and edema .,it only happens in kids and very rare in USA . Usually interstial nephritis cause eosinophilia in blood or urine ,however Poststreptococcal Glomerulonephritis cause blood ,protien loss in urine , the latter course could be serious because it may lead to high blood pressure and edema unless it is treated in the hospital symptomatically . If you think that you have UTI symptoms like burning sensation and urinary frequency ,this could be the most likely reason ."

Jayaraman replied: "Getting Blood in urine is known medically as hematuria — isn't always a matter for concern. Strenuous exercise can cause blood in urine, for instance. But urinary bleeding can also indicate a serious disorder. UTI (Urinary Tract Infection), Kidney infection, Enlarged prostrate, Gall bladder stones and cancer can cause Hematuria. Especially the first risk factor starts with URI. Some medications given to treat some other problem may also lead to Hematuria but I do not think Amoxicillin or Ibuprofen cause Hematuria. Common drugs that can cause visible urinary blood include aspirin, penicillin, the blood thinner heparin and the anti-cancer drug cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan). Some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory pain relievers are also known to increase the risk of urinary bleeding.-"

Can you take ibuprofen while taking presciption meds? I'm taking INH (latent TB), amoxicillin (strep throat), and Promethazine (anti-nausea) and I've heard that ibuprofen is safe with most antibiotics and I know for positive it is ok for the INH. The other two though, I'm not sure if its ok. My throat hurts like a mother and i know that motrin will help, I just want to make sure it is safe.

pathfinder replied: "Ask your doctor or pharmacist."

tinkerbell062383 replied: "i think it will be safe... but ask you doc or pharmacist.... i take blood pressure, birth control, and acid controller everyday.. and i take one..."

i soo hood!!! replied: "sure ofcourse you can"

bigJ replied: "Check with your doctor first"

dragonfaery replied: "Those medications are fine to take with ibuprofen. Just don't take another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (nsaid) with it. No aleve around the same time, no meloxicam, celebrax ect. Good job on knowing to take ibuprofen for a sore throat. *also if you need to take more than 2 pills. Say up to four 200mg= 1 rx strength 800mg tablet just eat some food to protect your stomach since you are on other medications. Ibuprofen tends to tear up the stomache hense the reason it can not be taken with some medications."

I'm currently taking amoxicillin for an infection, is it alright if I take a percocet as well? I was prescribed percocets for a different injury a few weeks ago but right now I'm suffering from an ear infection and ibuprofen is not helping the pain at all. I know how much percocet I'm supposed to take, I'm just wondering if it's dangerous to mix these two.

Ralfcoder replied: "Ask a pharmacist. This is part of what they are trained to know."

Darla T replied: "definately i give the combo all the time at the hospital"

Slapjack replied: "Im sure its fine since these 2 meds are commonly given together. But if i where you i would call your local pharmacy and make sure its fine."

Currently Taking Amoxicillin, Percocet, and Ibuprofen? I'm expiriencing tremors, Anxiety and tons of other problems what could this problem be.. All of these are prescribed for me. I just got surgery done on my wisdom teeth on Monday.

moriachik replied: "Hmmm... Low blood glucose? What are the tons of other problems exactly? And why are you on the antibiotics and two types of painkillers? Percocet especially should put you to sleep, after making you feel high! XD"

Gus M replied: "You are probably reacting to the Percocet. It contains a strong narcotic agent (oxycodone). It is a painkiller, so if you are not in pain, it is best to not take it. If you are in pain try taking less of it and rely more on the ibuprofen to control the pain. Those agents are commonly prescribed following dental surgery."

Oliviah replied: "Adding ibuprofen to Percocet will increase the effects of the Percocet, which Percs can make some people feel shaky nervous, agitated etc. Maybe try taking one or the other for your next dose."

jcatz replied: "The combination of the drugs does not sound dangerous, but I do hope they are from the same dr, if not that all prescribing drs know about everything you are taking. Percocet is a strong narcotic and in some people can cause increased sweating, heart palpatations, light-headedness, euphoria, dizziness, uncoordinated muscle movements, agitation, nausea, minor hallucinations, disorientation, facial flushing, and other side effects. If these continue you need to call your dr, your dose may be too high."
