Caffeine Withdrawal Advice Facts in Questions
Can anyone offer medical advice as to why I'm having leg cramps associated with caffeine withdrawal? ? I've done research and I know it's normal, but I want to know why! I only drank one cup a day, and an occasional soda. Been caffeine free for 5 days now - still leg cramps though and want to know why!

AMBER D replied: "It might be because coffee (and chocolate) in excessive amounts can cause magnesium deficiency Coffee floods nutrients out of your body via the urine. This includes Vitamins A, D, E, K and essential fatty acids. This diuretic effect which is created when drinking coffee can also interfere with your absorption of iron simply because so many nutrients pass so quickly through the kidneys. Although coffee contains water, because it causes the body to excrete more water than it actually takes in. The result is a fluid deficit, which, over time, can lead to a variety of health problems, including dry skin, constipation and bladder infections or mineral depletion. Start drinking orange juice today. If it was only a cup a day, you should be able to wean off of it without any side effect. I think the cramps might be related to something other, perhaps you are dehydrated. A lot of coffee drinkers (i am one) use to drink more water after drinking their first cup of coffee. Could it be you are now drinking less water? Drink the orange juice, it will help you if you are dehydrated AND will replenish your minerals, naturally."

Caffeine withdrawal? Over 2 weeks ago, i was up all night online drinking pepsi. That monring my heart was pounding. And i was all nervous. I'm 15 and i told my parents about this. They said it was the caffeine in the pepsi. Stayed up during that whole day and went to bed around 7 am. Got up at like 10 pm. After i woke up i was still tired. Is it the caffeine withdrawal causing this? The fatique and mind foggyness, Lightheadedness? I was drinking pepsi so much and NOOOO water at all. I was prob drinking it 4 days in a row without NO water. I went through about 3 liter bottles in about 3 days. I doubt its my sugar. Right now my symptoms are starting to go away. But the other day i started drinking dr pepsi. (had 2 glasses) and it came back again. Erghhhhh hehe any advice?

Beau R replied: "Drink a lot of water over the next two days, and flush out your system."

gods_follower_2012 replied: "I'm sorry to say this but your parents are right it was the caffeine. if you don't drink water every once in a while then you'll either get a headache or you'll be lightheaded,it happens to me all the time. your body prob. isn't used that much caffeine in such a short amount of time. also caffeine can cause dehydration so the more pop you drink the more lightheaded you get."

tits_here2002 replied: "smart"

V. replied: "Try drinking a cup of green tea once or twice a day to help with the caffeine withdrawal symptoms. Because green tea has a milder for of caffeine, and it stays with you longer."

sophieb replied: "ya, stay off the pepsi for a while. Pepsi never affected me that way; I was spending $35 or more a month on pepsi and for years, drinking very little water. But you're young and your system may be different. You could be getting too much sugar. If you like pepsi so much why not wean yourself off of it by having a glass of cold water in-between the pepsi. Here's the thing...if you drink too much liquid then you thin your blood, and it being thin will make you dizzy, lightheaded. Slow down on drinking anything for a while and see if that works."

Are these symptoms of caffeine withdrawal from sodas? I cut out all sodas and coffee cold turkey 2 days ago. And boy, am i ever feeling it. Symptoms ranging from headaches, nausea, lethargy, fatigue, irritable. Are these normal? I took advil and it did nothing for the headache. Any advice? Thanks

LR replied: "Yep, sounds normal if you were drinking a lot and quit cold turkey."

Gypsy Wolf replied: "Oh yes, I know those symptoms well. Anytime I go even a day without caffeine I have to hide from all sound and light because of the migraines I get. The only thing you can do is either take in some caffeine (which is what you apparently don't want to do) or just wait it out."

Sam replied: "killer headaches?! yeah most likely!!! i was like that too. it really sucks but once you go through hurtin like that you wont want to drink them and have to stop again. try excedrin... it has high dose of caffine that should help =]]"

jl replied: "Sounds like what I went through. Mine lasted 3 days, but I was on a lot of caffeine"

Donna replied: "That's the symptoms! If you taper down you won't feel it so badly. Also if you get past the third day, you pretty much are past the symptoms. Good luck!"

Caffeine withdrawal headache? I haven't had regular coffee except decaf in a couple of days to cut out my caffeine intake, and I have a MAJOR headache that's lasted for hours. Any advice on how to deal with the caffeine withdrawal? I popped two Tylenol Extra Strengths a few hours ago, still hasn't helped. I am trying to quit because in couple of months I am going to be trying to conceive and I figure I might as well quit coffee now because morning sickness PLUS caffeine withdrawal might not be such a good idea LOL

czekoskwigel replied: "Your best bet is to have some caffeine, and ease yourself off of it slowly. Use something like Excedrin, which has Tylenol and caffeine in it."

Lise22 replied: "It will pass in time. Ice pack on the back of the neck."

thunderthighs mcgee replied: "well if you arent trying to quit then drink some coffee... that happened to me when i thought i didnt need it. a few days later i realized that behind my coffee addiction was a huge headache waiting for me so i'll never try to quit again."

QuestionWyrm replied: "As a person who has given up caffeine several times in my life (only to go back, but that is another story) I can tell you that if you go about four days with no caffeine you will get a headache that lasts about five to seven days. This is a special headache that aspirin or the like doesn't seem to help. Really you just have to tough it out, but it doesn't last forever!"

pissy_old_lady replied: "nothing but caffeine will help...the headache can last another day or two for you...you should have cut back slowly...you could have started by drinking half caffeinated/half decaf for a couple of days, then reduced it bit by bit."

Ms.6 replied: "Are you trying to quit coffee? I had to for my health and I went through Caffeine withdrawal really bad. Really there isn't too much you can do, but drink a lot of water. Also if its really bad then have a small piece of chocolate, chocolate has caffeine in it but if you have small piece it should stop your headache."

I am going through Zoloft, Xanax and caffeine withdrawal (just lowering the caffeine to help with sleep).? Does anyone have any advice for the short road ahead? Thank you.

Riot replied: "just a question by why are u going through the withdrawal of all three at once? thats going to be rough! why not cut back ur caffiene like u are, but stay on ur xanax until off the zoloft for a couple weeks and then wean off the xanax? this may make it alot easier to handle lowering ur caffiene is not just going to help with sleep, its going to make ur withdrawal recovery easier without it because its a stimulant and im guessing ur on the xanax for anxiety related issues whcih the caffiene will not help at all, it will make them all the worse especially when coming off xanax another thing to do is switch to some herbal remedies to make the transition easier, rescue remedy, valerian, chamomile, hops, passionflower, all can help calm u down while u withdraw and if ur finding ur symptoms returning, use them long term, very safe, healthy and efficient"

vaughn favrua replied: "hell eyah cut back on the caffein for sure"

Why do I still feel like caffeine withdrawal is taking effect? It's eben one month and a week since I quit caffeine. I feel terrible though. I'm tired beyond belief, I can't focus or do anything. I can't play chess like I used to, and I'm still annoyed. The only thing that's different from when I was drinking caffeine is that instead of SOMETIMES having energy, I now NEVER have it. I'm basically useless 24/7. I thought it might have been due to a lack of sleep and dietary issues given I eat nothing but junk food, but I really don't have the time to go through a process of elimination with everything that COULD be causing this.... Any advice?

kaydid replied: "sound like you need to change your eating habits maybe you need a vitamin"

michaela replied: "yep, since you've had it for so long your body proabably has become dependent on it, its could you quit it tho, and maybe you should trie to cut back on the junk and eat more fruits and veggies then you wont feel so bad and you'll have more energy."

Wendy replied: "Caffeine withdrawal can definitely make you feel tired and shitty, but it usually also presents itself with a raging headache. If it's been a month since you stopped drinking caffeine, that's probably not the only thing it is. I eat junk food and drink coffee as well. Were you used to sugar and milk in your coffee? Cappuccino? Chances are your sugar is really low for a good portion of your day that USED to include cups of coffee. If that's the case, then just make sure you eat something with sugar in the morning that will last awhile. Even a sugary caffeine-free soda would be good to try if you're not into trying healthy stuff. People don't realize that whatever sugar their body is used to is what will make you feel shitty, fatigued, foggy, irritable, and even gain weight! Seriously, make it a point to have some sugar (even a banana is fine) and see if you feel any better. If so, then you need more sugar to replace your old caffeine/sugar/creamer part of your day."

☮♥KiKi♥☮ replied: "changing your eating habits is easier said than done... just try to have the willpower to have a balanced diet. that might be caffiene withdrawal... but junk food has empty calories and are no source of energy."

How do I detox from Coffee (Caffeine)without headaches? I am trying to be a healthier person. I have slight high blood pressure, and was recommended by a health care practitioner to cut out coffee inasmuch as caffeine can be addicting and also can increase heart rate, make one more anxious and tired because you can crash from caffeine. When I have attempted in the past to quit caffeine, I got humongous, powerful headaches and felt nauseous and fatigued. This was a result of caffeine withdrawal. Although caffeine withdrawal can only last 3 day, I need my job and to work ans cannot perform well with a headach and being naseous and fatigued. But I really wish to quit. Can anyone please offer me advice? Are ther supplements to take to combat caffeine withdrawal? I would love to hear from either former coffee drinkers or people also trying to quit caffeinated coffee who have solid advise for me. Thank you and God Bless.

sunny112358 replied: "I quit drinking coffee when I was trying to have a baby and had those headaches for a few days as you say, although I only had about two cups a day. If you are used to drinking a lot of coffee then make a gradual switch over a week or even two. If you use instant coffee then make your own mix in an empty jar, say 4 Tbsp regular and 1 Tbsp decaf (20% reduction in caffeine) or if you are seriously addicted, 9 Tbsp regular and 1 decaf. When the jar is empty make a new mix, this time 3 Tbsp regular and 2 Tbsp decaf, then next time make it weaker again etc. Same would apply to ground coffee. Another approach is to keep a record of your coffee intake for a few days, then see which one you "need" least and substitute e.g. herbal tea or water (can be fizzy or with a twist of lemon). After a few days substitute one more cup etc until you are down to just one cup a day. Personally after Baby was born I started drinking tea regularly (black tea with milk in the morning, green tea sometimes in the afternoon) and almost never have coffee now. I don't recommend substituting with a supplement (there are things such as guarana, for example) but tea has many benefits and is a gentler stimulant than coffee (but ask your practitioner about suitability of this for your case). Or if you are sure in your case that the withdrawal only lasts for three days, time these for a long weekend or a vacation. Good luck."

Dustin M replied: "Wean yourself off of it. Basically, start by cutting out a cup or two of coffee from your normal daily amount. This will probably be hard, but it shouldn’t cause tremendous side effects, because you’re only reducing your amount, not cutting it off completely. Then, after a few weeks, cut down even more. The same applies to any caffeine drink, not just coffee."

Side effects from black mamba energy drink or caffeine withdrawls? My 16 year old daughter drank a black mamba energy drink on Friday night. She experienced immediate hyperness. Obviously, she wasn't able to sleep very much that night. The next morning, she experienced a "freak out" session where she was very antzy and paranoid. Since then, she has had one episode of accelerated heart rate - around 120. She is also shaky at times as well as experiencing breast pain - commonly associated with too much caffeine. Obviously, I do not approve of the consumption of energy drinks but like many things teens do - this was done away from the home. I have taken her off all caffeine since last friday and I think she may be experiencing caffeine withdrawls. I am scheduling her for a doctors appointment for the beginning of next week. In the meantime, I was wondering if this sounded consistent with caffeine withdrawals or the side effects of the black mamba drink? Any advice would be helpful.

john m replied: "is not the caffeine is something else many has die already,no body is listening. red bull in under scrutinizing."

shane s replied: "Energy drinks caused the hyperness and possibly the antziness the next day due to lack of sleep, but the high dosage of cafeine and sugar although not good for her would not continue to cause the same thing unless shes still drinking them remember cafeine is a drug and can be addictive"

How to get my caffeine intake cut down from 613mg per day to 280mg per day? Hi I'm not sure if there are any differences between male and female in this case but don't let my av confuse you, I'm male. If you need to know why my av's female look at my profile. Anyway, I'm a caffeine addict, I currnetly take in 613mg a day, I don't suffer any of the side-effects of caffeine except one, which is increased urinating, other than that, I get plenty of sleep, very calm and relaxed, can sit down without fidgeting for ages but if I need the bursts of energy really fast I can get them and I very rarely suffer headahes. In science we've been doing about drugs and one section was on caffeine, now I know the amount to get you addicted is 280mg a day, and we were asked to work out our own intake and when my teacher saw mine he said that my intake is really high and seen as it is more then double the dosage to get addicted I need to cut down as it could cause major damage to my body. So I thought that I should try and cut down to 280mg as that is kinda the milestone for addiction. So any tips on how I can cut down without triggering withdrawal symtons cos I've been told that they can occassionally be quite bad even though it is only caffeine. Any advice on cutting down? I'm 15 and get all my caffeine from the soft driink Pepsi Max. I don't want to cut out my caffeine completely, nor do I want to go below the addiction line but I would like to lower my intake. By the way, I want to know if any has any idea why I don't suffer the side-effects, I'm really lazy so I'm hardly burning it off in running or anything, infact as soon as I've finished drinking a 2litre bottle, all I want to do is sleep, lol. I mean after drinking a 2litre bottle of Pepsi Max all I want to do is sleep, I find that odd as caffeine a stimulant, not a sedative, lol. Joe C, get lostt, one I hate coffee, two, caffeine is a drug, just like alcohol and tobacco meaning in certain does it will be addictive as the human boday will eventually get used to the chemical and if you suddenly take it off that chemical it suffers withdrawal. Oh also Joe C, there's also something called caffeine poisoning as well, i wouldn't like having that.

joe c replied: "What ? its coffee for gods sake not heroin !! Just drink less coffee and stop being such a wuss."

Dreamangel replied: "OK this I know i can comment on!..I too am addicted to the Coffee! I have to have a cup upon waking and a cup before going to bed, otherwise I cant sleep! yes you read that correctly...i cant sleep! I use to drink over 15+cups A day, as soon as one cup emptied I'd be up to get another one. I ended up in hospital once and was told I had a mild form of a stroke.(I was 26 at the time). the Doc told me that all that coffee was not good for me. So with time i cut it right back to 2-3 cups a day.. and then drinking just hot water. I found that within time I started to drink more and more again. And now I have to take the time and really think about how much coffee I am drinking, and the way I do this now, is to think about the habit I had created and break it. its all in the mind, you become use to doing things, say that every day at 11am you have a cup,but tomorrow at 11 you make a note to say no not today, today I will have something else. And start to break down the coffee intake. I understand what its like, for me if I don't drink it, I have bad headaches and feel down!. As for your cola drinks, there are plenty of caffeine free ones, just change them over. You know they say a habit can be broken within the first 3days of trying. Good luck...just try hard for the next 3 days."

Please give me some advice.? Hi everyone. Lately in my class we have been talking about schyzophrenia. I am quite paranoid by this disease. I feel as if i will get it or somehow have it. It kinda terrifies me. No one in my family has it or anything. I am perfectly mentally stable. I just worry sometimes. So, today i wake up and felt like i was still like kinda dreaming. Like everything i do is on automatic pilot. Please help. I'm not on drugs or anything. Can it be caffeine withdrawal? Is it just my mind playing tricks on me? Its not like bad i just feel like weird. help. Thanks. I just really wanna feel like i did before. Someitmes i daydream and it feels like that today.

badddninja replied: "It is common for people to feel like they have a disease when they are learning about it. People reading into things way too much. However, if you feel that you may have it then they best way to find out to confirm is to ask a doctor."

club digimon replied: "its just your mind playing tricks on you"

☆☆ luv2dance ☆☆ replied: "Its just your imagination"

Barbara replied: "sometimes or maybe a lot of times someone hears about an illness and the next step is omg. I have the system or that is me I'm sick.Later that feeling may go away or you in your mind can make it worse. Believe me I know a lot of people do that. In your case talk about it verbally to someone even if you can't say it aloud print your question and let someone know how you feel. NOW"

XxXHannaXxX C replied: "hi hun, you have developed the early stages of schyzophrenia."

Discovery replied: "I know what you mean. This is what happens to us when our thinking is concentrated for too long on a subject that is a worry to us, try to tear yourself away on to more pleasant subjects. We were having tuition on an unpleasant subject just after we joined the forces, and the imagination of one person in the class was so concentrated he passed out and had to be carried from the room by the tutor, no-one else was affected in the least. That seems to be how you have become to some extent."

vetech_61 replied: "Put aside your unbelief and Say this prayer so God can come into your life, He is right there waiting, hoping You will make this choice & say it. He has a plan for your life He can and will help you with everything. He wants you to be the best you can be. He loves you and gave You free will to choose having His unfailing love in your life or not He loved you first and left the door open for you. Its up to you to walk through into His loving arms. God can help you, If only you ask Him. If you want to accept Christ as Savior and turn from your sins, you can ask Him to be your Savior and Lord by praying a prayer like this: "Lord Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. Please forgive my sins and give me the gift of eternal life. I ask You in to my life and heart to be my Lord and Savior. I want to serve You always." Amen He helped me and I want you to feel his Love too. Then pass on this prayer to others so they can get to know Gods unfailing love too!"
