edy l replied: "A significant number of men develop impotence from psychological causes that can be overcome. When a physiological cause is treated, subsequent self-esteem problems may continue to impair normal function and performance. Qualified therapists (e.g., sex counselors, psychotherapists) work with couples to reduce tension, improve sexual communication, and create realistic expectations for sex, all of which can improve erectile function. Psychological therapy may be effective in conjunction with medical or surgical treatment. Sex therapists emphasize the need for men and their partners to be motivated and willing to adapt to psychological and behavioral modifications, including those that result from medical or surgical treatment.
Medical Treatment Oral Medication Oral medications used to treat erectile dysfunction include selective enzyme inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil Viagra , vardenafil HCl [Levitra], tadalafil [Cialis]) and yohimbine (Yohimbine, Yocon).
Selective enzyme inhibitors are available by prescription and may be taken up to once a day to treat [5]ED. They improve partial erections by inhibiting the enzyme that facilitates their reduction and increase levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP, a chemical factor in metabolism), which causes the smooth muscles of the penis to relax, enabling blood to flow into the corpora cavernosa. Patients taking nitrate drugs (used to treat chest pain) and those taking alpha-blockers (used to treat high blood pressure and benign prostatic hyperplasia) should not take selective enzyme inhibitors.
Men who have had a heart attack or stroke within the past 6 months and those with certain medical conditions (e.g., uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe low blood pressure or liver disease, unstable angina) that make sexual activity inadvisable should not take [6]CialisĀ®. Dosages of the drug should be limited in patients with kidney or liver disorders.
Viagra is absorbed and processed rapidly by the body and is usually taken 30 minutes to 1 hour before intercourse. Results vary depending on the cause of [7]erectile dysfunction, but studies have shown that Viagra is effective in 75% of cases. It helps men with erectile dysfunction associated with diabetes mellitus (57%), spinal cord injuries (83%), and radical prostatectomy (43%).
In clinical studies, Levitra has been shown to work quickly, provide consistent results, and improve sexual function in most men the first time they take the drug. It also has shown to be effective in men of all ages, in patients with diabetes mellitus, and in men who have undergone radical prostatectomy. Cialis has been shown in clinical trials to stay in the body longer than the other selective enzyme inhibitors. It promotes erection within 30 minutes and enhances the ability to achieve erection for up to 36 hours.

gtrplayer5555 replied: "You can get it from your doctor, but it is expensive. If you have high blood pressure, ask for Revatio. It is the same drug that is used in Viagra, but is prescribed for cardiopulmonary hypertension. Insurance typically only covers about 4 to 8 tablets per month, and the "at cost" price is about $11.50 per 50mg tablet of Viagra. If you have hypertension, it may be a way around the limit of # of pills your ins. will cover.
But, in reference to the first part of your question. Viagra works fine, but you have to avoid fatty foods. Cialis is a good option if you want to take a pill every couple of days just incase the mood arrives. Levitra seems to be about the same as Cialis. Viagra is pretty much for when you know you are going to have sex."
Richard B replied: "They all work; but you should talk with your doctor first if you're having erection problems. These medications can only be had by prescription. Someone here mentioned the "black market". Don't buy black market drugs because you can't be sure that you're getting the real thing; and you could actually be endangering yourself."

A possible natural solution to viagra? A younger, sexier woman!
What percentage, do you think, of men with supposed "erectile dysfunction" would be suddenly cured?
a) 0%
b) 1-10%
c) 11-25%
d) 26-50%
e) 51-75%
f) 76-99%
If anyone knows of any studies done this natural cure, surely let me know! But personal guesses is what I'm expecting.
Good point, lunch loaf. I have read that heavy exorcise will increase blood flow and hormones needed for a man's tool to function properly. Like heavy weight lifting.
@Sunny day: Well, I see the ad hominems (personal attacks) are coming in from the ladies already. Actually I'm 25 and mine works like a champ. I've said nothing that would evidence of mine not working. So, please stop assuming (we know what that does) and focus on the matter at hand.
My point is that many ED cases may just be a matter of circumstance. What percentage do you think are?
@Tracey: True, they probably don't want an old man. But if he has loads of money, you better believe they'll do just about anything he wants. He doesn't even have to give her any money. That much status and power will do it no problem. I've seen it and it works without fail. Sure, maybe not every young hot woman, but still plenty will come along for the/a ride.
Top-Secret Feminist Conspiracy replied: "lol good one that cute....clearly you need to research erectile dysfunction."
CB replied: "e) and many of the rest due to drinking 10 pints a night for the last 20 years!"
Sunny Day replied: "It didn't work for my ex. He hung limp with younger women, and only came back to life with my "skills." That is why it was so hard on him when I dumped him, because he wouldn't use VIagra. It's not woman's problem. It is the man.
Why don't you just take your old dick to a hooker and pay, and see if a younger woman works. Or did you try it, and just hang, embarrassed and unable?"
yarking lunchloaf replied: "yeh, well. Try good health. On the man's part, I mean.
Most men that go running for that crap are out of shape. Get them endorphins going with strenous exercise and Mr. Stiff tends to be there when want him to be."
Max replied: "When or if I get to that point in my life in which I become impotent or end up with erectile dysfunction, I'd simply just let it be. I WOULD get my heart checked because some medical experts say that erectile dysfunction could be a sign of cardiovascular problems, but as long as my cardiovascular system is doing well and the rest of my health is up to par, I wouldn't worry about it. I don't need sex to survive.
...But this is my opinion. It's up to other men to decide what's best for them."
Tracey replied: "Yaaaawwwwwn.
It's feminism's fault that so many men have enlarged prostates. I don't know why, but it is. Just 'cuz. So there.
And Sweetheart, let me let you in on a secret. It is NOT the undying wish of every young attractive woman to spend her Saturday evenings flogging a dead horse and trying to rouse a paunchy middle-aged guy who can't get it up. Sorry."
ProfessorC replied: "Viagra would probably cost less......"
Aside fr viagra, what are other solutions to erectile dysfunction and low sex drive for a 51 year old? My husband had 3 kids with his previous marriage, we've been married for 2.5 yrs and we have sex only at most 2x a year bec of low sex drive, inability to maintain erection, and difficulty of insertion even with the use of gel. The neurologist recomends viagra but i could not accept that its the only solution.
jonnyraven replied: "There is a vacuum pump device that works for some, but you really need to rethink your opposition to ED drugs. For men healthy enough for them it's the simplest solution and they are effective"
Joachin Murietta replied: "Could you please tell us why you have such a problem with Viagra? I'm serious... why not?
Your husband may be suffering from low testosterone levels, or the result of high blood pressure, drinking too much...a lot of different things. There is NO magic pill or bunch of diet supplements (other than DHEA) that will do any good."
UNIVERSAL replied: "This is common among the elderly people.Consult a good sexologist and physician. One of my friends suffered this kind of problem.I suggested him the following:
1.To message penis at least one hour before intercourse with Ayurvedic oil specially prepared for this purpose.
2.To watch sex movie before intercourse.
3.To reduce frequency of masturbation.Instead do intercourse within breasts.
4.Some times get the penis sucked."
zara3 replied: "Testosterone the male hormone mainly increase the sex drive of a man
but might help as after a point in there life man stop producing as much as they should
but be careful as Testosterone can make people very aggressive
talk it over with a doctor it may be completely wrong for him"
Galaxy replied: "There are 2 other drugs in the same class as Viagra (Levitra and Cialis). Just because Viagra didn't work doesn't mean the others wont.
From there you are looking at gradually more invasive treatments like vacuum devices, penile injections and even penile prosthetics."
pqrama replied: "I personally use injection therapy that consists of Caverject or Edex, both produce a very hard erection that can last up to four hours making it possible for a man to perform for many hours. Using a needle on the penis may sound painful but it is not and the resuling erection is far greater than a little pin prick."
Does Viagra help with Premature Ejaculation? I have read on quite a few of these questions/answers that Viagra helps PE as well as ED.
Is this true? Because im actually having trouble with both, and was wondering if Viagra is the solution.
paganmom replied: "First things first, you need to discuss both with your doctor because they could be caused by underlying health issues."
morphfitness replied: "Viagra does not help with PE, there are some delay creams that help or use believe it or not 2 condoms so the sensitivity is less. This has worked for me. Do not masturbate as with that you are trying to get rid of it as quick as possible in case of getting caught, this can effect you when have sex. If you are going to masturbate take it slowly."
seth s replied: "i took it recreationally once, and i will tell you i have never had so much control in my life,it was awesome,im 36 and it was better then when i was 21,it was completely up to me when i wanted to cum...or not,lol also i was huge, lol my gf then was very pleased, lol. i would completely recommend it,the only side effect i had was some pretty wicked heart burn."
merlin replied: "how old are you?? are these your first sexual encounters?? if so, the more you do it the better you will get. don't think about getting a nut. think about other things, but don't think too hard or you will lose your erection"
Edward W replied: "NO THINK NOT BUT A SURE ANSWER COULD COME FROM YOU DOCTOR."
IAINTELLEN replied: "There is not evidence that Viagra helps with PE. You should also NEVER take Viagra without it being prescribed by a doctor. Viagra can lower your blood pressure dangerously."
DolPek A replied: "There are other herbal remedies that can help instead of Viagra. It is worth trying before taking Viagra. I discovered this by accident. It is called Beta Sitosterol."

Does viagra help erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation?
Viagra was actually conceived to help treat erectile dysfunction, a medical condition experienced by 40% of males aged 40 to 70 in the U.S. alone. When taken correctly, studies show that it works for 4 out of 5 men. In fact, it has been shown to significantly improve erections in most men, regardless of their age, and no matter how long or how often they have had ED.
Viagra has helped more than 16 million men so far, making it the leading treatment for ED. It works by increasing the blood flow to the penis, and takes 30 minutes to take effect, and lasts for 4 hours. It can be taken as often as once per day.
However, Viagra does not help with premature ejaculation. There are desensitizing creams on the market that some people have had success with. Condoms are also a great way to reduce the sensitivity that can lead to premature ejaculation. Masturbating until you are about to reach the point of orgasm, and stopping yourself before you do so, is also a good way to train your body not to ejaculate too early.

Could this be the solution to the health care debate? OK, free Viagra, and assorted implants, free to everyone(including illegals), and no tax increase for anyone making under 400,000 bucks! No that's the kind of health care coverage everyone can agree on!

How to deal with erection problem caused by nerves? I don't have any problem getting an erection when I am on my own, but when I am with a girl I can't get erect and even if I do, I can't maintain it for long. I have been with 5 girls already and I always have this problem. I have just started a new relationship and I soon will have to sleep together, would something like Viagra be a solution?
Davestros replied: "I'm assuming you're not that old, so I would say it's more of a psychological problem than a physical one. The only way to overcome this is to become more comfortable with yourself. You may not think this is a problem, but it must have something to do with self-confidence. Try being intimate without the need of an erection, such as just laying next to each other or something. Don't try and force it, you'll just get nervous."
robert y replied: "Nope. You've gotta learn to deal with it on your own. Viagra is just a crutch. You just have to learn to keep calm & not get so excited & don't get in a hurry. Learn to relax & enjoy the feelings. It is not carved in stone that you have to rush thru anything. Take it slow & easy. You may be trying too hard to get it just right - and nobody gets it just right every time."
hhutchie replied: "the best thing to do,is to tell your girlfriend that you not want to rush things by having sex with her too soon, this will take the pressure off you feeling that you need to perform, still lay beside her, hold her, do what ever you would normally do, and you will find that eventually you will be able to sustain an erection, this problem happens to a lot of men and its nothing to be embarrassed about. there are a lot of sites on this, also if you drink or do drugs this can also have an impact.lloyds chemist do an online consultation about this problem, as do a few other places."
Pinkpoet M replied: "I had erectile dyfunction for the past 3 years. My girlfriend left me because of it. Until my friend recommended Viswiss. I love it. Gave me hard rock result."

Viagra May Damage Sperm...? ...is that the definition of irony?
New research suggests that the drug can damage sperm and so prevent some men from starting a family.
The findings mean that young men who take the drug recreationally could be damaging their chances of starting a family.
Likewise, fertility clinics that prescribe the drug to help men produce sperm could be preventing couples from getting pregnant.
The research was led by Dr David Glenn, a consultant gynaecologist at Queen's University Belfast, and will be published in the journal Fertility and Sterility.
His team took sperm samples and bathed them in weak solutions of Viagra, then compared the treated sperm to standard samples.
They found that Viagra made sperm more active, but also damaged its acrosome - the part containing the enzymes needed to break down the membrane surrounding a woman's egg to allow sperm to fertilise it.
Hey Jomamo...damned if you, damned if you don't, eh?

Agent Zero replied: "Well I'm safe i have 2 healthy sons and absolutely no need for the little blue pills."
devilsadvocatexxxx replied: "I sure hope so Arthur."
. replied: "not much of a choice for impotent men though is it - either keep all your fertile sperm to yourself and never enjoy sex/have kids, or take a pill that enables you to give it to a lady, with a very tiny risk of it being infertile"
~Freya~ replied: "That was very interesting, thankyou.
Viagra can also cause heart attacks.
Erectile dysfunction is mostly caused by stress, or a psychological "Block". Occasionally, a medical reason.
I have heard a holiday often fixes the problem & works out cheaper than Viagra, overall."
steph j replied: "Well there you go, they will start rebranding it as the new male birth control pill next"
Spell Check !! replied: "Only guys with old fat women need Viagra. My Viagra is a young blonde with a great body."
Dr Watson (UK) replied: "So you either have healthy sperm but a limp dick, or dodgy sperm and a huge dick - sounds like Catch 22 to me."
Rodriguez replied: "That's the least of your worries - if one gets stuck in your throat it'll give you a proper stiff neck."
Is there any permanent cure for erectile dysfunction? I dont mean 'take as you go' type solutions like viagra. I need to know if there is a permanet cure for erectile dysfunctioin, libido enhancement and erection enhancement
Trenese replied: "okay I'll share this with you and let you decide if they are permanent:
Damania
Goldenseal
Ginseng
Yohimbe Bark
Sasasrpilla Root

The mental: the man needs to find out what causing the mind not to perform below. Psychologolical, mental, these factors could be playing a part."

My erector set keeps falling down. Would applying Viagra help? Thinking about this problem has been keeping me up at night. I have been toying with a solution.
Meshuganah Maidelah replied: "If the Viagra gets stuck in your throat, I hear you get a stiff neck.... ^..^"

? replied: "Super glue always seems to do the trick for me - there isn't a stiff enuf wind that could blow it down then"
Rene replied: "Thanks for the two points. Good luck with your erector set."
? replied: "This is a common problem. If more men could keep their erector sets erect, we wouldn't have this coming down problem. The longer you can keep your erector up the more fun you have toying with it.I have a slight hearing problem so when I was discussing my erector set with my Dr., he told me Viagra should help. Well, I thought he said Niagara, which is a spray starch. When I went to my swingers club meeting Saturday night, I went through 6 cans of it and my erector still fell down. But my shorts look nice though.I won't even tell you what some the women ended up with.Oh well."
Iggy replied: "You're thinking of the Doc Johnson toy. Try cialis, but only if you get tired of playing with it after 36 hours."
