Does prozac make you gain or loose weight? I know it's probably different for certain people, but I'm just going for the bigger number here. What were you, or someone you know's results, if anything?

Reim replied: "I'm a male. I took Prozac when I was 18, and my weight went up from 51 to 58 kg during the several months I took it. My height is 173 cm. I guess 58 is a healthier weight for my height, but the bottom line is I gained weight pretty quickly and I remeber my appetite was markedly increased while on it."

LadyLynn replied: "The majority of people lose 5% of their of their weight in the first 3 weeks. :)"

Has anyone used Zoloft and gained weight then used Prozac and lost weight? Hi. I wanted to know. Has anyone ever used Zoloft, and then gained weight. After gaining weight, switched to Prozac and lost weight? I used Zoloft and gained weight, now I am on Prozac, and I want to know if I will loose weight. I have read that Zoloft is notorious for weight gain, but a lot of people have dropped weight with Prozac. I know what SSRI's are, and their workings, so I would just like to hear what people have to say. Thanks. The thing is, with Zoloft, I still exercised, 5 times a week - at least. So exercising is not the problem. 3 times gym and 2 times jogging (13 kms) I think I have OCD - I cannot shake of thoughts or stop analysing social situations - anyone use Prozac for that? Remeber to answer the weight issue.

Brenno replied: "As far as I know Zoloft is known for not making you feel hungry. It's also taken by models who don't want to eat to keep skinny."

Kym<33. replied: "i take zoloft and i dont gain weight. but then again i only take 150MG of it every morning and i actually have tried Prozac and i actually gained weight from that."

piepiepie replied: "Never tried Zoloft. Was on Prozac for about 6 months a few years ago, I did lose weight even though I was already slightly underweight before going on it, but only because I was never hungry, rarely slept, couldn't sit still and quite mad because of 'the workings' yep. I was only on a low dose, 20 then upped to 40 mg before I quit. If you want to lose weight, your best bet is to eat right and exercise."

Rockford replied: "I lost weight while on zoloft and gained huge amounts of weight on prozac. Some people gain weight on zoloft and others lose weight. The only real SSRI where you don't gain weight is wellbutrin. You can add welbutrin to any other SSRI so that you don't gain weight as easily. You can lose weight easily also on topamax, but its a mood stabilizer, not a SSRI."

I need ideas to loose some weight. Unfortunately, I cannot work out as of yet, due to neck and back injury.? I take the following medications which causes weight gain, but I have to take the meds.... I need someone to share some tips that can help me loose 40 lbs or more. Thank you in advance for your help. Wellbutrin XL Prozac Neurontin Baclofen Lyrica Elavil Ambien CR

sealife8 replied: "eat healthier foods and less of them. stay away from over processed foods, try to only eat what you prepare from scratch. You said you can't work out because of injuries, but maybe you can try walking. Even just walking around the block will get you started. It will also help your body heal. good luck"

Does Prozac cause weight loss? This question is for those who are on or who were on Prozac... Did it cause you to loose weight? And if so, how much, and how long did it take to loose that much weight? Also, what other kind of effects did the drug have on you? (I am taking 10 mg daily for depression, and I've been on it for about a week and have lost 1 lb. without dieting or changing my exercise plan.) More Details: When I was depressed, I ate a lot! But now that I've been on it, I eat less because I guess I feel happier and have less of a need for sweets... so I guess it has the opposite effect on me than others who ate less because they were depressed? Also, thank you for the answers! It's nice hearing about other's experiences. :-)

madamesophia1969 replied: "I felt better and started eating so I consider you one of the lucky ones. If it concerns you then keep a calorie and food diary. Of course you could have just lost water weight."

need advice replied: "i have never taken prozac but i do know alot about it and other antidepressants... prozac is common for weight loss but everyone is different. Loosing one pound doesnt really mean anything though, that could be a result of water weight loss. If you are wanting to loose weight try modifying your diet and exercize"

n0witrytobeamused replied: "If you're not depressed, then you might eat less. Some people eat for comfort, to relieve stress, and the weight builds up. Using Prozac could stop that cycle. But a pound isn't very much in one week; a pint of water will do that. But it is encouraging! Good luck!"

Ratz-r-sweet replied: "I have been on Prozac for years, when I first started I started out on a 20mg. once a day & felt so sick to my stomach & headaches I didn't feel like eating. Didn't loose no more than a few extra pounds. In time I have been on 20-40mg a day & never no weight loss. Every ones body & system is different."

deltaqueen replied: "Yes, I lost weight for about 4wks, then it leveled off. There are several side effects that occur for a short period of time until your body gets used to the drug, dry mouth, hard to sleep, no appetite. Since you are only taking 10mg you shouldn't have too much trouble. But no matter what the side effects you suffer are, stick with the med for at least 6wks because they do go away and you will feel soooooooo much better!!! Good Luck to you."

Melissa M replied: "everyone is different and for some people it don't matter how much you eat you will loose weight from some medicines. i am a emotional eater so when i was on depression medicine i did not gain weight and i would eat lots."

Is it possible use sebutramine hcl with prozac in different time in one day? sebutramine hcl is for loosing weight

zeroefx8 replied: "I would not advise using the two concurrently. Sibutramine increases serotonin as does fluoxetine (prozac). There is a risk, albeit a small one for a medical condition called serotonin syndrome. I would definately proceed with some caution if you plan on taking the two medications."

Help!!? I'm loosing weight?? I'm 5 foot five, and in the pat two months I've gone from being about 115 pounds to being 108 pounds. I'm not trying to loose weight, but I've noticed I'm just not hungry at all anymore, and I don't know why. I really think this is going to become a serious problem if I don't get it under control. I'm also going to become a vegan, which will limit what I will be able to eat. The only thing I can think of that may be causing my weight loss is that I went on Prozac a few months ago....but other than that, I have no idea. Can anyone tell me how to gain weight again? I've tried eating more but it just isn't working! I know 108 for 5 foot 5 isn't that bad or that skinny, but I don't want to loose anymore weight because I don't want to look like a stick!

Ev'rybody Know Me replied: "Eat more high calorie foods."

CHERRIES replied: "get professional help and eat as much as possible. dont force but try to do better. a concerned person"

Teddy Bear replied: "koool u weigh as much as mee..."

spider replied: "eat"

boxing_fan_4_wlad replied: "Get off the prozac, why become a vegan and then pump yourself full of prescription drugs MAKES NO SENSE. Eat Organic Beans and Rice, check out Wolfgang Puck Soups."

toddacanda replied: "Granola"

Annette replied: "Talk to the Dr. that prescribed the Prozac. It could just be a temporary problem since you just started the meds. Or it could be a side effect of what reason you were put on the meds. I can only presume it was for depression....and alot of people lose weight when they get depressed. Once the meds have you stabilized and your body has adjusted to it, you might start gaining weight again."

Juror #8 replied: "More carbs. Eat breads, rice, pasta, etc. Carb up."

stifbisket replied: "Try taking more vitamins. I recommend B and J orally."

warriorn639mr replied: "Work out and build muscle... muscle is denser than fat, so it takes less volume of muscle to gain weight.... and it might also help gain back your appetite.... also, 108 for 5 ft doesn't sound bad at all!"

rock_star_indian replied: "EAT MORE cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese Up to 3 month daily 50 Gram then tell me it is GUARANTEED BY ME"

cupidgirlz2003 replied: "heck yeah, prozac can change your eating habits. also stress and lots of other things. If you stop eating meat you'll probably lose more- i would go to the doc. & make sure you tell him or her you plan to go vegan so he/ she can recommend some good supplements. good luck!"

jmiller96003 replied: "Medications can deifinately cause you to change your eating habits. I took an antidepressant called Celexa a few years ago. I went from 118 lbs. to 155 pounds in 4 months! My Dr. kept saying that it wasn't the Celexa, but couldn't tell me why I was gaining weight when I had always been a solid 118 lbs. Finally, I stopped the Celexa, and slowly started to loose the weight. But, my system has never been the same. I now still weigh more than I want to. Since that time, I have met probably 6-8 different people who had the same drastic weight gain after starting on Celexa."

raylene_s replied: "Antidepressants can cause weight loss. The increased seratonin in your body can make you feel satisfied despite not having eaten. Pay attention to your body, try to eat three full, healthy meals. If you are female, 108 pounds at 5ft5 is not terrible. Watch your weight more another month or so and if you lose more talk to your physician. She may want to switch your medication. Some antidepressants, like Lexapro, are more likely to cause weight gain than loss."

FW replied: "sometimes when you stress out your not hungry and you lose weight. find the source of the problem and fix it. and don't worry it might be more healthy if you drop down but no offense OK? i weigh that much and I'm probably half your age(13)."

skr replied: "See ur Doc. immediately. This is not a simple problem with ur computer to fix asking people on the Internet. This is ur health and losing weight so rapidly calls for immediate medical attention. All the best...."

Duke replied: "EAT EAT EAT!!!!!! I gained 12 pounds in one month I have no clue how I did that cause I was only 92 or 93 pounds than I went all the way up to 103 or 104 pounds I one month I guess its from me eating a lot but I also lose a lot of Calories every day from being active. So my advice to you is start eating but not TOO much, and start becoming less active but don't become a COUCH POTATOE."

Ginkgo replied: "All medications have side effects and are bad for you. You cannot expect to be on drugs (meds) and not have problems. 40% of medications are for the side effects of others so you just need another med for this new problem. Blood pressure meds make many impotent. This is good business for drug companies. Thousands of MDs put millions of people on Vioxx but they took it off the market for killling people. Tell your doc and he may try something other than Prozac. Then when the new one gives you another problem you will... This will be your life. But see this website under depression with info by MDs on how diet can make a huge difference in this. Plus an uplifting, inspirational story of someone with depression worse than you (on 3 meds for it). "

ViRg() replied: "The best way to find out is to get yourself to the nearest hospital & get some tests done - the least to put your mind at ease. You could be going through stress. Stress symptoms include restlessness, sleep difficulty, loss of appetite, etc. Although I don't think being a vegan is going to improve your condition any further."

tamzid replied: "its not a serious problem that u lose ur weight, just tri to maintain ur regular rutine then ur problem will be solve. i think u r very tensed. give off them"

prozac medication- side effect? I am officially diagnosed with anxiety disorder. and depression. I am taking prozac- or at least, will start to. Is it true that it makes you loose weight? is that normal? I'm scared. what are the other side affects?

birdie replied: "Its more common to gain weight using SSRIs"

klthompson911 replied: "I've known people that have been on prozac and they gained weight. It also diminished their sex drive."

Zeep replied: "Being anxious about anxiety drugs is par for the course, I guess. You might experience no side effects, but will probably feel a bit out of it the first week or two, then less so. You may lose or gain weight or stay the same, and the sexual side effects are annoying but not as much as anxiety and depression are disabling."

AbeLincolnParty replied: "there is a wide variation on how long it takes for your blood levels of prozac to stablize to their steady state level. Some people get agitated from the drug, but may not know that the drug is doing this as it could be more than a month since they started taking it and the side effects showing up. it is not likely to make much change in your weight, either way. see the website for prozac label information:"

I'm 15 years old, 5' 3'' 140 pounds. How long would it take me to loose 30 pounds? I've recently gained a lot of weight from taking Prozac for panic attack disorder, and I really want to get back to my old weight.

addictive replied: "The healthy and fastest way is to lose 2 pounds a week, so that'll be 15 weeks."

Máire Siobhán replied: "Two pounds a week is considered safe, and that's if you eat healthfully and burn off the weight, rather than just restricting food intake. You lose weight, not loose. "Loose" is what your pants get when you lose weight. The way I remember which is which is to say both when I'm going to use one, and then it's obvious. I'm just sayin, if you're going to DO it, you should be able to SPELL it! lol ** peace **"

btdt replied: "Your ideal weight would be 125, by the way, for a body mass index of 22. So you don't need to diet that drastically."

Is prozac causing me to be to complacent or loose ambition? I have been on prozac a year now because last yr i was going through a lot. Anyways my situation has improved but i decided to stay on it because i don't yell at my husband anymore and things don't bother me at all. I don't know if this lack of feelings is a good thing though also i noticed i have no ambition to change anything about my life i have lost alot of my sex drive too Is anyone els on prozac or know about this Is the prozac causing these problems? And i don't know if lack of emotion is really a problem my husband said some mean things about my weight the other weak and i didn't care the old me would have cryed Is this a bad state to be in to not care not only about my feelings but i have no ambition meaning i'm not trying to better my life. Go to school ect i work full time though and take good care of my kids. My husband says they medicine makes me to cool with everything though? and i always reply you wouldn't complain no more if you were on it and he will say we don't need two stupids in the house. huh?

Hoping to help replied: "It's probably the prozac make you like this. If it bothers you, ask your doctor for another med or try weaning off slowly and see how you do."

Wavey replied: "Anti-depressants like prozac tend to turn people into "zombies". It's a side effect that isn't really talked about. It has something to do with the dopamine receptors. I watched my best friend go from happy, to extremely depressed, to a zombie in about 2 months. You need to tell your doctor about what it's doing and how it's affecting you. He may be able to subscribe something that will de-zombify you, or take you off the meds completely."

fly by night replied: "Yeah. prozac tends to make you accept things you never should. If i were you I'd get off them as soon as possible. I'd also get some counselling because your husband sounds like an idiot who has very little respect for you.It is not okay to be mean about your weight or call you stupid and you should not have to keep yourself medicated so he can get away with it."

Kelly replied: "I personally liked the zombie feeling I used to have on others meds (I'm on zoloft now.) But many people don't, and since it's affecting your relationship with your husband, you might want to try lowering your dose, or maybe stopping altogether. The sex drive thing can definitely be caused by anti-depressants."

Tulip replied: "One common problem that happens is this. I have been there and done that. You have to figure out what it is first that is destroying your sex drive. If your on medication like birth control or anti-depressants that is something to think about and do research on. Other then that it could just be stress, maybe the kids, really anything that makes your life stressful can do this and lower the libido. One thing I tried that seemed to work while I was doing it was exercising. I just felt sexier doing it which kind of boosted my libido. However it wasn't the best solution for me. My friend told me about these herbal enhancers that are made from natural herbs and don't cause any side effects besides having wild sex. She said it's the female version of viagra. I had to find out. I would always have a weak orgasm too (if I had one at all), which after trying this sex enhancer, it boosted them tremendously. I don't get multiple orgasms but I've had plenty since being on these herbs. It's seriously like the best vibrator ride you've ever experienced. These things make me horny all the time, some days I don't even take them because the urge is just too strong. Don't try out single herbs because they don't do it like the blend of herbs these scientists and researchers pick out. I've tried a couple of them by itself and they did crap. The stuff that I'm on is called Hersolution, at the time I saved money on it at herenhancement .com . Make sure you get the 3 month supply that way you fall under the guarantee/return policy if the herbs don't work for you, you can return them with no questions ask. I bet they will work though and you won't have any problems. Also if your on medication of any sort, check out the gel because if your like me, you wouldn't want to swallow any thing that might react with the medications your already on. Well have a good day and hopefully you solved your problem."

prozac help? i was just perscribed prozac but havent takin yet. what can i expect? side effects? am i gonna loose/gain weight?

just me replied: "check yahoo health.. or MD.com"

preciouschynadoll2005 replied: "well they should have gave you a list of the side effects with your prescription..!!! here are some Nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, anxiety, trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, weakness, tiredness, sweating, or yawning may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor promptly. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: unusual or severe mental/mood changes (e.g., agitation, unusual high energy/excitement, thoughts of suicide), uncontrolled movements (e.g., of the lips/tongue), shakiness (tremor), restlessness, inability to keep still, decreased interest in sex, changes in sexual ability, blurred vision, numbness/tingling. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: bloody/black/tarry stools, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, easy bruising/bleeding, fainting, fast/irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness/spasm, seizures, change in amount of urine. This medication may rarely cause a very serious condition called serotonin syndrome. The risk increases when this medication is used with certain other drugs such as "triptans" used to treat migraine headaches (e.g., sumatriptan, eletriptan), certain antidepressants including other SSRIs (e.g., citalopram, paroxetine) and SNRIs (e.g., duloxetine, venlafaxine), lithium, tramadol, tryptophan, or a certain drug to treat obesity (sibutramine). See also Drug Interactions section. Before taking this drug, tell your doctor if you take any of these medications. Serotonin syndrome may be more likely when you start or increase the dose of any of these medications. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop some of the following symptoms: hallucinations, unusual restlessness, loss of coordination, fast heartbeat, severe dizziness, unexplained fever, severe nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, twitchy muscles. For males, in the very unlikely event you have a painful or prolonged erection lasting 4 or more hours, stop using this drug and seek immediate medical attention, or permanent problems could occur. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist."

guy replied: "most gain weight. You may experience intial side effects and long term (forever) ones. Side effects differ per person and may include: tremors sleepiness or insomina suicidal thoughts -> rare but has been included I suggested reading your drug-prescription information. There you will find a lon list of side effects. ------------------- As for the effect - it may take weeks to notice."

diamondjs00 replied: "i took prozac for depression. it was my miracle pill. i loved it. i lost alot of weight. it stabilized my mood . lifted my depression and it worked wonders for me."

ohyes_x_killa replied: "you are probably going to seem a little loopy sometimes..."
